I've just heard on another forum that Fred J Taylor passed away last night. Sad news indeed and condolences to Freds family.

Another grat Angling Legend goes to fish the gravel pit in the sky. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

That is sad news as Fred was a true role model to many anglers of my generation.

I used to always read freds stories, not only on fishing but on all aspects of hunting. He used to be a bit of a hero to me when i was a kid, some of the things he had done was very inspiring, he certainly put a lot into his life,he will be missed.

That is very sad,Fred was not only an angler but a country man and it coursed through his veins,i had the pleasure of dinner with him(that he cooked, another passion he had) on the Kennet at an old bomb shelter he and his brothers and R Walker used to fish.

Condolences to his family and friends.

RIP.

J.

Fred J Taylor OBE had a damned good innings, and had not enjoyed the best of health in recent years, but it still came as a shock when I heard the news... I hope to attend the funeral...

I had the pleasure of Fred's company on a number of occasions: he was a great wit, storyteller and countryman. He was also aware of how important angling politics were and gave me great personal support when I organised the first meeting of the then fledgling SACG some years ago, which he attended and spoke at. He also wrote a chapter in the Carp Tales book about his old friend, Frank Murgett...;\)

RIP Fred, you will always be forever remembered with affection by anglers throughout the world...;\)
