In the year 2012 all caged chicken produce is to be stopped

The upshot of this will be the non availability of eggs from these birds and the national use of freerange \:\)

This will considerably effect the smaller bait firms out there as the cost of freerange eggs is or will be far greater....

I fully agree with the new laws that are to be imposed on these chicken farms but am fearfull of the ramifications........

Regards,Dean U.C.N \:\)

I do not agree with the new rules.... cage them and produce cheap eggs..... at the end of their short, unhappy life, give them to Dazzle to barbecue....

i'm not sure a lot will change dean ,free range is but a word to many penny pinching farmers m8 , turn them out on the grass for an hour and there free range , there will still be massive overcrowding and there will still be damaged eggs , they will just cost more , and have poo on them , to prove there freerange

not getting on my high horse but
i wonder if you have ever seen (not on tv )the distgusting conditions these hens are kept in and the state of the hens themselves. my mrs keeps hens and has had rescued battery hens you may find your attitude would change if you saw them !
as for the cost i reckon the price of free range will drop from what they are now but they will be more expensive than battery eggs.but like everything the cost will just filter down to the public

the battery eggs are cheap there also tasteless

Absolutely agree Paul, but the said price increases are said to be cosiderable and this will have to be pasted on to the customer.......

Therefore, let us go in another direction and suggest alternatives to eggs, assuming that that alternative is cheaper and is as good as eggs, also, has anyone experienced how awkward these alternatives are in the bait making proccess?

Pete, although your warped sense of humour is often a proper laugh on certain subjects,i feel in this instance it is misplaced as this really could affect our buisness mate

Well...you wont have to wait until 2012 to gauge prices...

Marks and Spencer and Waitrose have already stopped selling
eggs from caged birds...

Others are expected to follow...

Is this a British Government piece of legislation or is it European?

Anyone know?

Would the cost increase not be a common factor to all bait firms and result in an across the board increase for small and large firms alike? Unless there is an implication here that large firms do not use fresh eggs?

On a personal note I’ve used free-range eggs in my own bait making and for home use for a long time now for ethical reasons. Ditto with chicken meat. I’m not convinced that the claims are valid in supermarkets so tend to by local ones from a farm shop when I can. Despite this I still find Peter’s warped sense of humour amusing!
