1st time I have disagreed with you Keith, with over 40 years carping experience myself, I would like to think I can call myself a "true carp angler", by not delivering food to the anglers does not make me less so, in fact imo, giving the lake a rest for a couple of hours a day is far more productive for the anglers than having people travelling round the lake delivering food. It also encourages anglers to abuse the fishery rules of not having to use on site toilets, just speaking from my own experience of running a fishery.

As a 'customer' I'm not interested in being pampered with food being brought around to my swim. I'm much happier getting off the lake every few days to stock up on food and seeing a bit of the local areas.

Sure some people want looking after but I go to get away from all that and chill out. In my experience most anglers feel the same, I was almost going to say the better anglers feel the same, but that may be too much of a sweeping statement.

Rob.

Davew I totally agree that the fishing improves if the lake is rested and that would always be my preference. What I was trying to say was that as a service industry we need to be aware that some anglers want different things from their holiday to others. The vast majority of our meals are served in the "gravel bar" but if an angler wants to stay in his swim over breakfast then we tailor our service to suit and deliver his meal to him. I must explain that the meals are delivered on foot and not by vehicle.
With regard to your comments RobS I have to disagree. From my experiences over the last five years most anglers want a good food package as part of their holiday and they don't come to a fishery to then "see a bit of the local area." They are happiest if they can drive in through the gate on Friday evening and stay until they depart the following weekend thoroughly chilled out. It's the total package that keeps our customers coming back every year.

Keith we don't quite give the same service as you, if anglers relied on me walking round with their meals, they probably wouldn't get them until they were cold (or at all). There is a takeaway service available though, send a friend round and we will wrap the meal up for takeaway. RobS, I can only speak for myself here, but 85% of the people who have been to our lake want to take up the food option, fish hard and also treat it as a holiday, perhaps another 8% want to cook for themselves but not go sightseeing, 4% want to cook for themselves and want to do a bit of sightseeing (meaning they are with their wives) and 3% just don't want to leave their swim at all and treat the trip as a mission!! Personally I think I would fit into all categories, try the food package available, occasionally have a meal cooked for me by another angler, go sightseeing with somebody else's wife and if all else fails just stay in my swim or come home and write on the forums!!

Just goes to show that you won't please everyone all the time eh guys? As long as you try your hardest to offer most options within reason (the odd scarlet women wouln't go amiss, wink wink) then I'm guessing that's why you seem sucessful in what you do.
I'm guessing that those that don't offer what us punters want will fall by the wayside sooner or later albeit leaving a few disgruntled customers in their wake??

Loc: France or The Mangrove Swamp o...
In my experience people fish in France with various motives, it's impossible to generalise... ;\)

We get clients who fish hard 24/7, others who just fish days, others who tour the area and fish nights, some who just like to chill-out, enjoy the surroundings and who hardly fish at all! \:\)

It's their choice. My clients have a lake exclusively to themselves and they like that fact.....that's our strong point I believe. There's nothing worse than sharing a lake with a bunch of idiots, and I've had several French fishing holidays ruined by muppets and moaners around me...

We've got plenty of bookings and over 50% of clients for 2007 are repeat bookings - in some cases they've been with us up to 6 times now...

As for food we don't provide it, but we do provide the facilities for clients to cook their own meals, which to me is preferable as with so many fussy eaters about it's hard to cater for everyone, plus in terms of taxes etc providing food just doesn't stack up....

We have a scarlet woman operating five minutes drive from the lakes, but she only works 9-5, and not on bank holidays....I do believe some of the clients do pay her a visit....

I'm not interested she looks like Pat out of East Enders....

I have to disagree with you there. This will be my 14th consecutive year of going to France (May & September) and I have only once had a meal package and hated it. I alway's pull of the lake at some point (normally Tuesday or Wednesday) to look at other waters and have a meal.
The last thing I want on a fishing holiday is someone dictating what time I have to eat and what.
