Most of the fish in Weedy died during the hot summer of 95, I arrived to fish one week and stood on the railway embankment to find most of the stock belly up in the pads below. pollution was blamed but suspect low oxygen levels, there were some nice fish including a couple of stunning true leathers.
I heard it was stocked over the following years with small fish from a certain Wigan reservoir chain, So suspect some new blood could be coming through by now.
Its anice little lake, however access is terrible, you get all sort of folk walking the towpath behind you and the kids are a nightmare! Not somewhere i'd feel safe fishing these days.
As Lanc says Scotsmans, Rainfords, Horrock's are worth a look and have all done carp in the past. (allegedly)

Wigan colne valley... honestly !
they've all got carp in. Most are being fished and have been since the 80's. Hard to say what's in because of the 'unique migrations' that wigan carp seem to undergo.
tales of thurrties as big as me dog.. Owd george 'ooked one ont long pow ont shell o'er 'emp and it were a reet big un. Saw a lad ook one on bread.. broke his 20lb line so it must have been a thhurty. ( used to be twenties when I was a kid so they must have grown )
The 'wigan rule' still applies. Whatever weight is said multiply by 0.75 - sometimes up to 0.5 ( age of 'water oracle' dependant )
Scotmans does have some ' bonny ' carp in. Heard there was fisticuffs when some were recognised.
Unusually it is a SSSI due to it's unique changing lake bed. I kid you not apparently it moves up and down with alarming regularity !! constant plumbing may be required !
If you like the sound of scooters, fishing on slag heaps , car being torched and kids on surf boards then thats the place for you.
