OK its spelt incorrectly but when i was on holiday i did some snoorkling and was really amazed by it, i took a few snoorkles nack with me and am thinking of giving it ago on the 110+ acre gravel pit i fish in the summer, anyone had any experience of this? its a quiet water so i wont be annoying anyone, but its heavily weeded and to find a clear spot is a real achievment alone, i'm remeber reading about dave lane using one froma boat on wraysbury, boats are banned on the lake i fish by the way, so it swimming only,

Be VERY careful and dont do it alone. Just remember that every year there are a number of kids who end up not getting home after going for swims in such places.

If boats are banned then get yourself one of the big tractor inner tubes. Glass bottom bucket could also be a better option than the snorkle.

I don't know your lake Lofty so know nothing of depths, undertows, etc. I snorkel quite a lot but always have someone on the bank just in case. Some weed is very easy to get tangled in but not a problem if you keep calm whilst extricating yourself. Deep areas can have dramatic drops in temperature so a wet suit comes in handy. Undertows are not generally a problem unless it is fairly windy.

Alan Tomkins use to swim out at Blackwater the secret pool. It was covered in his serialisation of his time fishing there in Carpworld a few years ago.

Not quite my thing though I have to say !
