I have changed the titles for posters.
New categories are:
new syndicate member
syndicate member
senior syndicate member
bailiff

I am thinking of setting up a new general forum which can only be accessed by those who have achieved the status of senior syndicate member or bailiff. What do you think?

I think I can see where you are coming from Paul, a sort of loyalty bonus for the serious and regular users of the Forum and to encourage some more active involvement from the hordes of browsers who don't post, just take ?

I'll go with that, if that's the plan.

You will get all sorts of silly remarks about elitism again of course, but if one is serious about supporting the site why not get a little extra for it ?

Cy.

PS. Of course you will need to be open about the selection criteria for the four levels of membership. The two obvious one's are length of membership and numbers of postings, but be clear about the ground rules or that will be asking for trouble.

Not sure about this one.. surely topics should be available to all to comment on.. an area with limited access may encourage some to post potentially interesting comments or subjects out of view of the majority.. to the detriment of the site in general..

An interesting view point, from a b.c.s.g. member.

Since joining the forum I have learned a lot, off people much more experinced in carping then I am. Since joining I have not posted much unless I can add something valid, which to be honest is not very often.
I may be wrong but I would think plenty of people are in the same boat as me.

How many posts am I short of senior syndicate member status?

If this happens you will have a very busy "new general forum" and a much quieter open to anybody forum.

Dodgy idea I reckon. Can't see what purpose it would serve.

1 more point to concider( apart from my spelling) is that you may end up with a lot of cr4p posting from some users inorder for them to get up the ranks so they can post in the privet area, bit like me;-)

i was a navigator/baliff on lyco chat for a long time and on there it is set up in the way you talking about and that is the more you post the more you get out of the chat but you get a lot of spammers trying to up the status and you need to wade through the junk before you get to the better stuff.
just a thought thats all:-)

Does the fact there have been (so far) 164 views and only 13 posts on this thread say anything ?

I can't see why anyone would aspire to get to use a forum which excludes a lot of the people you would want to converse with. If you look at the RMC members section, you will see that hardly anyone uses it. I still think it's a duff idea.

Could be Mr Yates.. Could be..
Personally Paul, I don't think sites within sites is the way to go, that's my personal opinion.. shoot me down in flames and prove me wrong.. please..
I think most anglers have 'edges' and will not disclose them and that's the way it will stay.. unless they know or trust the recipient of the information in the first place...
A separate forum would simply divide replies...

Would it be too revolutionary for me to suggest then a 'subscription only' Carp Club forum?

I'm thinking along the lines of an 'insiders' full information source/BCSG like, that could only be accessed by those paying a small subscription - say £1 per month. Besides having access to exclusive info and chat, members would also get discounts and special offers etc...

This would help keep the main site going, by the way....

Just give me time to put on my tin hat...

Hi Paul,
It is not possible to recreate 'insiders/BCSG' type free exchange of information on a public forum... those involved would either act like a clam or go away!..
Such are the problems of a website.. much knowledge is second hand, or obtained by expanding on another's theory.. therefore not your own and suitable for dissemination..
You contributed to 'The Carp' for a few years and know the score..

Paul, why don't you create a poll on the main carp forum and see what peoples views are?
