Hi Roman
I live on the outskirts of Dewsbury - not too far away from you.
My rods have been gathering dust since Christmas - and to be honest I've been really struggling since the beginning of December - the forecast is milder [ if we can trust the forecast] for this weekend, so i will be giving it a go on sunday[13th]on a lake at Barnsley - to be honest i'm not expecting very much but need to get the rods out. What about yourself? do you fish local?

Best of Luck
Healdy

Hi Ginner,Nostell is now run by Wakefield A.C.Night fishing is banned and the car parks are kept locked so you need a key to get in.
I have not fished it for over a year so dont really know how its been going .The few people I have spoken to tell me its been very slow with not a lot comming out.Hope that helps
Butch.

Hello yorkshire lads-
I think i was a tad too optimistic - re fishing this weekend. I went for a walk around the lake[ Blacker dam] on saturday and it was well frozen!! It was hard to imagine catching a carp from the place for ages yet.

I presume fleets was frozen as well anybody had a look? I need to get out soon! without giving your 'secrets' away Have any of you Yorkshire lads got any idea where I could buy a run over the next few weeks.

Roman - yes I do go to the Carp society meetings and will be going to listen to 'Chilly' [ very appropriate] next week - I will say hello.

A couple of lads have said they are fishing a lake at otley - Would this be Knotford?

Healdy

Hi again Ginner yes the fleets is well worth a look at this time of the year. The fish do go up to high doubles but most are still singles. The water is very shallow and soon warms up so it should be ok by next weekend .If ther are any matches on the pegs reserved for them are normally posted on the fence in the carpark.

Hi Lads,
I used to live in Doncaster, lived in portsmouth for the last 11 years, but about to move home to my roots next weekend.
Nostell Priory brings back some memories.
88-91 there was only me, and an old boy on a moped who fished there. The old boy used to fish for the bream and myself for the carp.
Don't like the sound of it now though, much better when John Osterfield used to run it.

Hi lads, I had a look at Nostell top lake on Saturday. The ice was 3 inches thick still, and that was just in the margins. Hoepfully with the weather being milder now things may start to improve. Would help though if we had a bit of a breeze to start breaking the ice up.

Alright giner. I fish Kirklees quite a bit as i only live five minutes away, and like you say it's a good place to hear the buzzers go. Best thing is it fishes well in the evening so i can nip down after school. When i saw you down there was actually a time when i was spending some time down there. Me and my bro were averaging 6 fish a day each when they got on the bait. They had it big time and we cleaned up nicely . But after that we moved onto some other waters for some better/harder fish. Last time i fished it was about 8 weeks ago ( think i had 2 and lost one in a morning session). I didn't fish it through the summer cos i was down at Horseshoe. Have you done much at Selby, some of my mates have done pretty well, but most ended pullin off and fishin a certain 'northern stillwater' by the summer time (summat about it bein too busy for them). where u fishin this year, and will you be at the society meetin?

I will be at the meeting - don't worry i know who you are - cos your always winning the raffle prizes
I dont fish Knotford - but have been trying to find out some info - because I'm thinking of spending some time on it next year.
p.s I'm glad your post has resulted in other Yorkshire lads posting - keep it up and we maybe able to give these Cheshire lads a run for their money
Its bad enough with Man U being back at the top! { sorry Paul ]

Keep posting.

Cheers Healdy,
Whereabouts do you fish around here then? At the meetin i'll tell you about Knotford cos i know quite a bit about it. Is it the Bradford one your talking about it? If it is then it's probably the easiest West Yorkshire water to get runs on.
Keep on postin. Cya!

Roman

I'll talk to you at the meeting re Knotford. I was actually meaning the leeds water - which I've heard is a lot harder than the Bradford one and that it contains some much bigger fish.
as you know the waters i will be interested to see how you feel they compare.
giner and yourself have mentioned the Kirklees lagoon - this is also a Bradford no 1 water isnt it? Is it the pond next to the calder - just up the road from the Corn Mill pub?

Alright Healdy,
What you said about Kirklees is spot on. Actually it will be my first year on Leeds this year, i know a bit about it because i know a few lads who fish it, and were top rods last year. If your in the area on saturday, i will be on Bradford fishing all day. Just look for a red RS turbo ford. Hopefully might cya.

Greetings to all tykes. Its obvious you are all nostell mad,but living only 5 miles from the place I hardly give it a second glance-reason,because for the last 3 years,I've had a double in every month of the year without travelling more than 5 miles from my house in Wakefield. I was out on friday night for the 1st time since before xmas (the freeze-up)and collared a nice common of 11-10. This is on a club water with open access,so don't get bogged down with nostell & ryhill, cos there are plenty of other options in the area. If you want more details, just e-mail me for the lowdown.

At last I've broke my duck after the best part of two months without a run - it was about time.
I managed a short session wednesday morning - two runs two carp and both to my new overflavoured pop-ups!
Thats more like it!

OK lads

Who's getting out this weekend?

Whats the secret formula you're going to use?

Single hookbaits? Stringers? Particles?

I don't want your secrets I'm just interested to know if we are all trying the same things and wondered what success your all having?

Me - I'm sticking with the over-flavoured fluro pop-ups - and I'm only putting a little bit of bait in as I leave in the hope that soon it will get easier.

Hi Mark.I had a few hours on the new water yesterday with the marker rod still very weedy. My tactics for blacker are to use some of that bait I nicked from you last saturday when you were asleep. If that fails the rods are for sale.
I am watching the reds on saturday but may be on blacker on sunday(with your bait)
See ya.

Hi john

Still weedy ! Does that mean that the water is very clear on that venue?
Don't forget - I'm very interested to know whether there are any vacancies or whether I can get on the waiting list.

p.s. Rumour has it that Roman has still not caught anything this year !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just getting into true carp after many years of match fishing, getting kit together, just dont go telling the wife what I have spent....will keep up my matches for this season as I'm secretary of Hull Midweek AC but will most certainly use some of my new found knowledge while fishing the club matches, taking up carp fishing as I work all week and wish to enjoy my fishing, relaxing and doing what I want rather than 5 hours of non stop pressure....really looking forward to getting out there, just about sorted and may have a go this Wednesday, have a drainage canal not too far away with many low doubles, taken plenty during the summer but sure fish will still be holed up in the same spot...all the best

I guess from reading Matt's post that your campaign had to be delayed for another week - cos I see you blanked again!!

So did I !! - I only managed to get out on Saturday - I used the fluro pop-ups all day and never had a bleep - at least a few fish did come out to other rods this weekend - so there may be some hope.

I see you may be on Langholme next weekend - I'll be interested to see how you get on - all the feedback I've had indicates that this could be a very interesting water.

Unfortunately I can't fish this weekend as I'm taking the wife to Paris - Soppy Sod - ' Well it is Valentines weekend and I need the Browny points.

Best of Luck

Healdy

Big it up to the main man Healdy! Can't wait for next weekend. Last week Matt rung me up, and said out of the blue lets join Langholme. And a virgin 23 acre water with only 30 members at the moment, sounds like a peace of heaven to me! Oh yeah the fish aren't that bad either! Hopefully i may have found a little peace of heaven up ere, instead of having to travel daan sath, to get mi fix! We'll let u know how we get on, but very reliable sources tell me this will be the Horseshoe of the north!! Yipee!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi chaps I will be out on Saturday, trying to catch one. Sunday I am on a work party at Nostell. If any of you Wakefield members are reading this help is required. Sunday morning nice and early, so much for a lay in with my better half.

Hi Chaps

John - If you have any ideas re a change of venue for the weekend - send me a PM - I wouldnt mind a change of scenery - otherwise I'll be on Blacker.

Chris - now youv'e mentioned Wakefield working parties - I think I can put a face to the name - unfortunately I'm letting my Wakefield book go this year - I've heard that Nostells not what it used to be and I dont really fancy the Sandquarry [ too many druggies driving around!]

Matt - lend Roman some bait - cos rumour has it that he's still blanking!!!

Cheers

I will attempt to correct and answer some of your responses.

Healdy- It is in fact my bait that Matt uses.
Matt- Now i've got the fishy feelin theres no stoppin me, i've pulled out from this weekend because of the Society meeting, however the real reason is to give you and the rest of the syndicate a chance of catching! But i'll be back with a vengence.

By the way to inform you. I broke my duck this year in style, managing to catch the smallest in the lake at 6lb at 3am on a freezin nite. Stunning baby fully scaler it was.

Well i've half sorted me gear out. Got some sexy fresh hookbaits rolled. Managed to sort my bait for the year courtesy of Hales Baits, on Fri. Carp Society meeting was very good. And like i said i got out on sat afternoon i couldn't help myself and ended up going for a few hours. i got ma fix, but mr carp didn't play ball! So another blank to add to the ever increasing collection! But a quality weekend anyway.
I may have a treat for fellow Yorkshire Lads, my good old mate Matt, has had quite a humerous weekend to say the least. I'll let him explain,(thats if he's not too ashamed of explaining!)
Well thats it for me. I wonder what u lads have been up to this weekend maybe something dull and grey, or maybe something more colourful(Matt)?

a weekend best 4got i think..

got to langholme 5:45 on friday with about 10 mins of daylight left to put the bivvy up and get the rods out and find a nice spot to fish 4 the night.

then i found out i'd left mi coffee and sugar at home so i'd have to go find the local shops, so off i went round the lake in mi car to the gate, but on the way got stuck in the bloody sand which is now about 3 feet deep. so after a good 45 mins off tryin to dig the car out of the sand with no hope of doin so it was time to get the AA on the job. 8:45pm the AA turn up and get me out in a flash and it's now very dark. sod the shop back to mi swim, it was about 9:30 when i got the rigs out.

saturday at dawn and it's bloody cold, time 4 a re cast the left hand rod had been out about 20 mins when i got a drop back and i hit in to what felt like a good fish which i played for all of 2 mins b4 the hook pulled

that was the only take off the weekend, the guy in the next swim had a 17lb 14oz common on sunday which was a very nice fish and that was that.....

hope this weekend's better.

Hi Chaps

Well its only wednesday - but I'm sick of the sight of my desk and can't wait for the weekend!
I haven't been out for a couple of weeks so I'll be making the most of this weekend - and I'll be fishing all weekend.
I'm going down to Blacker Dam and with a bit of luck they will respond to the slightly milder weather.

What's everybody else doing?

Cheers

Alright Lads,

Hopefully i'll be fishing Langholme this weekend from fri do sunday. I may even have a trip to Doncaster Racecourse to try and pick up so cheap gear on sat. Hopefully i can continue my success and bag a few. We've got a new method now, to try out and were hoping to cane the place. But we'll have to see. Like Healdy said the milder weather may turn them on, its about time they had it.

What a cracking looking fish!

Is this one of the Horseshoe lake stock pond fish?

Or are they all anyway?

Not bad eh! Well its good enough for me anyway! The fish was from Horseshoe, i,m waiting for confirmation of the weight that it was stocked at, i'll let ya know once i find out. Axe the fish at Langholme r from a variety of sources, eg, Lake Daiwa, Woldview, Horseshoe aand waters in Essex and Wiltshire, but the main thing is there all minters!
I ended up with 6 fish for 2 nites, 3 comms to 14lb and three mirrors upto 21lb8oz. Not bad considering the most fish caught by someone this year is two.
Hales Baits doin the damage again!
Thanx for the pic Matt!

I thought it was me who couldn't work the system! I've still not been able to add a picture of my own to my home page !

Cracking looking fish Roman - pity about the ugly bloke you got to hold it for you whilst you took the photo!!

Sorry it is you - I didnt recognise you under all that Hales bait advertising merchandise.

Great result Roman - lets hope its the start of a top season - by the way where is that number for Langholme!
