Yorkshire Carp Waters...I need some peace?

Dear All. In an ideal world, we all get what we want/require out of our Carp Angling...Yes? I would like to appeal to anyone who may be able to help me out. We have been fishing Selby 3 Lakes since June 2000. It has not been easy from our (Myself and my mate Marks' perspective) so far. We are going to persist, because we know we have a lot to learn, and therefore we will reap our rewards in the future. Fair enough. What I really would like to extract from you all is, if I may: Does anyone know of a water (close'ish) to Yorkshire that has 20lb + fish in it, where we dont have to worry about the next noddy, casting over our lines and upsetting us and personally getting in my face!! I need Some Peace!! I understand that this is to expected on a Northern premier water like 3 Lakes, and it is a great water. But...I miss the solitude of fishing a water where I have a chance of catching, yet I do not have to put up with the usual crap from the 'I've been Carp angling for 2 months fraternity' I am not a Carp Angling snob, but I require some peace(ful) angling sometimes. We fished Wintersett reservoir (Pontefract) and that WAS great. No more. Can anyone give me the location equivalent of a Yorkshire Wraysbury? Regards Axeman.

Paul. Thanks for that.. I hope my post makes sense to those, at least that have been around a while and understand where I am coming from. Does one require the hull and district book or something? I really have a poor memory because I fished the Tilery in the 80's but I cant remember if it comes under the same licence. Please expand if you can Paul. Regards Axeman.

Thanks Paul. Anyone else wish to answer the first post/question. I know that you are not all southerners... [This message has been edited by Axeman (edited 27-08-2000).]

Axeman Paul is right about Motorway .At the minute it is very quiet and is also the least weedy it has been for quite a few years.Plenty of 20's,odd 30 and a 40. You DO need a Hull book and this will cost you £26 for a full year. There are also other venues which are covered by the Hull book that are well worth a look at. Don't fall into the trap of thinking that you have to night fish. Many of the Hull waters produce well to day only anglers. Believe me there are the waters about that you are looking for in Yorkshire but as with most things in life you get out what you are prepared to put in.I don't know many who would give "their" water away.Would you give your water out to a stranger? If you don't want to fish with "noddies" and "I've been carp angling for 2 months types" think about the type of water that they won't be on. Happy hunting. Butt Banger PS. - Cheers for the Hornsea Mere reply on another site.

Butt Banger. Thanks for that and, point taken. I have seen you on 'another' site but I am afraid it was not me with a reply to your Hornsea Mere post. Although I would have replied, had I known 'Jack-sh1t' about the place Sorry... Regards Axeman.

Kevin. I have fished the Trent a little at Cromwell weir. The first peg above the weir. I had 1 mirror at 15lb, what a fight that was against the current. i know a lad who had a thirty Near the North Muskham stretch, in a tidal section. Sorry I cant remember the name of it. There are many pegs/sections that are favoured for Carp but it was in the Mid '80s when I knew, but my memory fails me now. It might be worth asking in the 'Match Section of the forum. If they are not all nutters like the Game/Fly bunch. Regards Axeman.

>Thanks for that.. I hope my post makes >sense to those, at least that have been >around a while and understand where I >am coming from. Yeh, I'm with you here. I love small waters, and I fish one tiny, weedy one in the middle of a wood in farmland. Carp to mid doubles afaik. Turn up one morning, 4.30, settle in quiet, margins, tucked behind a tree. Then he turns up. Clum, clump. Done owt mate. Plonks down next to me and puts the f'in radio on. I just went home and have'nt been back to the place since.

Wow, this is an old thread! Hi Hutchy. The closest I found to a Yorkshire Wraysbury was the A1 pits. Just the type of fishing I ideally like and with fish of the standard I was looking for. I never got to the motorway, for reasons I can't state here I'm afraid. (personal) Axe. Ps. I was under a lot of stress when I posted this topic. So please excuse the tone.

i dont think you are ever going to get away from some of the plonkers that go fishing[ most of them seem to be in our area ] yorkshire. i you are looking for big fish try looking at sally walsh,s dam or nostal to lake both lakes hold large fish or if you are looking for a lake with unknown quantitys have a look at cold hindley [ near ryhill ] or newmillerdam

Axe, I've mentioned this in a previous post I think. If you're still looking, then there are waters just like Wraysbury around Lincs. (Much more like than the A1 anyway). Sorry I must stop slagging the place off, it's just that it's such a barron **** hole ! It's very well stocked though, so I suppose it depends on how hard a water you wanna fish, the 2 lakes I'm about to mention would be much much harder, but rewards are there. Apex is one for starters, in fact that's bigger than wraysbury, and there's plenty of the unknown in there. I would'nt think you would get problems with instants on there mate, too big, and too hard. Alternately there's the SSI place but you would have to 'guest' ! If I did'nt have 2 fantastic quiet waters to fish in Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire then I would be 'guesting' there myself. Neil

Thanks again Neil. I do remember your last post on this, and have taken it all in for the future. I have to say, still, at the moment I'm not looking for ultra-hard waters as I have yet to re-gain some confidence in my fishing after an appalling season to date. I agree that A1 is barron, but I like that too. It's a total contrast to Selby and both waters can provide me with my goals for the for-seeable future. Cheers. Axe.

Axeman, contact me off line and i can give you some interesting info on a couple of north yorkshire waters which are rarely fished and hold possible uncaught thirties! (My father and I have had them up to 29.8 five years ago when I stopped fishing so seriously) So yes they do exist mate, but you will have to give me more details first. Cheers CA
