OK Paul, you guys keep telling me your carp fishing is so much different than mine and as I have not experienced UK carp fishing I want to see if the differences may help my carp fishing.

First, I use a 12 foot rod and Shimano baitrunner, for long range I have an Emblem with a long cast spool

I use a hair rig.
I use boilies.
I chum (groundbait).
I spod.

I love my bite alarms, banksticks, rod pod, swingers and all the gizmos I have that go with them.

I started catching carp as a kid with doughballs and a Mitchell 300 spinning reel from the bank or from a boat. We used to catch everything but mainly now just fish for carp since they are the biggest fish in our swims. It only costs me about 20$ a year for a fishing liscense and I can fish any of the hundreds of miles of public waters without further charge. Sometimes I am the only carp fisherman on the entire water. Although our carp are not as pressured as yours the big ones are still smart enough not to be so easy to catch all the time, or at least they are too smart for me to catch all the time.

What are the differences in the UK way of Eurostyle fishing vs the US (at least how I have been taught) way of Eurostyle fishing?

Oatmeal Jack

Hi Jack, the only difference as far as I can see is that your fishing is far cheaper than ours, your fish are far less pressured and you don't have to fight you way tothe hot swims!!!!

Sounds good too me!

Simon

And there's the rub, Jack!
Imagine on the lakes/rivers you fish that there was a guy fishing for carp every ten/twenty/thirty yards down the bank. For most of us that is what English carp fishing is like - at least in the summer months.
I think you'd agree your carp would wise up a darned sight quicker!
That's why, although we are happy to receive well-meaning advice from you guys, it often isn't very relevant to our situation.

Over here elbow to elbow is called the opening of trout season. I like the solitude of carp fishing. Simon, you ever want to come over and try my swims you are welcomed. I just hope you dont get lonely

The other wild frontier of carp fishing is pay lake fishing. There everyone gets an asigned swim and you fish for money. Although I think they are more heavily stocked than a typical syndicate lake these carp get smart real quick. These guys dont care about PBs! Several Euro guys have ventured into the fray thinking they would clean up and so far they have been lucky to only loose their entry fee

I just wish I could repay you UK guys for all the free advice you have given us. Maybe I will name my next PB Fergus to honor the help you guys have been in catching him.
