anyone got any views on baitboats?
in my view the use of these devices is ruining one of my local waters for those of us who catch carp in a more conventional and creditable manner.the problem is that you can only fish one bank of the lake, but by good bait application the fish could be persuaded to come accross to feed. however, many moor unscrupilous anglers? are taking bait and their rigs 300 yards to the safe area giving the fish no reason to visit the near bank were normal anglers can fish for them.

Hello mate, if you use the SEARCH facility at the top of the page, you will find some good debates on the use and moral's of the baitboat.

Baitboats:-
a means of presenting a rig/bait to an area previously out of bounds to all anglers fishing the traditional way,or another interpretation,a means of fishing for otherwise totally crap anglers unable to catch by the more traditional methods.
Bait boats should be banned nationally on all waters, if you want a boat to play with then go and join your local model boat club.

Not taking any sides on this one but having suffered myself last year from effects of others using RCB`s:-
If the above statement by carpcatcher is true why is it that many of the names profess to using them or row boats.

Here we go again, same old chesnut, same old arguments. the fact of the matter is, people have used boats for fishing, for as long as there have been boats, which is probably longer than they have used rods! as tecnology changes so do the methods used to catch fish, the hair rig, bite alarms, bait runners, bed chairs, bivvys etc. of course we could all live in the past with none of the new? technology but who really wants that? so live and let live. life is to short for all the bickering.
Spring will be here soon, the carps will be on the munch, just get out there and enjoy what you do, and don't worry about what others are doing. That is why they call it fishing, if you caught all the time it would be called catching

Bob,
I dont worry about what other people are doing, but when they drop a rig and bait over mine and they are fishing 200 yds or so away it does tend to spoil the day somewhat.

Common sense and discretion go a long way. Unfortunately many of the lads I see fishing left that quality in the garage.

If you can cast their then by all means use a boat. You can spod it (Noisey), yes I know some fish are attracted to it,but not at my local, but if bait boats were £5 each, every tom, dick and harry would have one.

Well maybe!

If the bait boat isn't going in your swim I don't see why it would bother you.As for taking the bait 300 yds to the safe area, after time this area won't be safe no more.
