how many of you are confident when casting to features at range i.e over 110yrds
i only say this becouse i experienced this at the weekend i saw a friend put a led 130 to 140 yrds to the edge of a bush one of the best casts i have ever seen i woulde be well proude but as soon as it landed he started getting paranoid the old did you see two splashes then. woulde you leave it or reel in and try again not forgetting you are on the money big time. do you have the confidence to leave it?.

I can never get tied up popups to stay on with any degree of confidence so I always thread them on the hair, I dont tend to leave my baits out any longer than 24hrs max so the loss of bouyancy isn't really a problem.

Use Krystons bait floss and tie it with the knot that is always published. Pull it tight. Tie the bait to your ring (ooher) with 5 granny knots. They dont come off.

A hard hook bait like HiNuVal will stay tied on,you can score the bait for extra grip and superglue both the floss knot and spot weld the floss around the bait.
You can also use a second loop at 90 degrees to the first which will give extra security for big chucks.
I find Krystons 6lb Samson hair braid gives a tighter grip on the bait than dental floss.

Mind you, me eyes aint what they used to be

i genarally make my own pop ups so i build a groove in to them but bottom baits i just tie on and leave.
it is hard sometimes but i will never pull it out they are always there on the retrieve
so it just proves to me that im doing it right but im always looking for the bait on the retrieve haha its always in the back of my mind.

I cant understand peoples worries. Tie on a bait in the time honoured way. Hold the hooklink swivel in one hand and the bait in the other. Now pull - hard. See, its still on isn't it. Casting doesnt pull that much.

You mention baits falling of when retrieving. I have caught several fish on the same bait on occasion (sorry Julian), no problem. This tied on bait falling of thing is becoming an urban myth, along with the paranoia about tangles.

top tip, use air dried pop ups,tie on with dental floss[unwaxed]then leave in your pop up tub for one hour.the bait will have swelled slightly making a rock steady hold. I have used these on mega chucks with no problem, ask the old timers on redesmere
