Hiya Chaps, I have been given a few different types of line and although I mainly know some of the different uses for each one, I would be very interested in what you would use each one for in your fishing or if you think they are good or bad etc.

Let me know what you think about them if you have any ideas as I have not used some of them before.

Firstly the 'Vanish' Fluorocarbon, I have heard much about Fluorocarbon but have not as yet used it, do you think there are benefits in using a line such as this? Also I have heard that it can be a bit brittle, have you noticed this about these types of lines??

Next is the Berkley Fireline, this looks a lot like mono, is it? For some reason it doesnt feel quite the same but I am not sure. Does this have special uses?

The Spiderline, Spiderwire I have used before as a floating braid which I find excellent if you want to fish over weed beds or gravel bars, is this how you would use this type of line, or do you have different uses?

Lastly, and I presume most obviously as far as uses go is the Berkley Trilene, Sensithin. Is this used the same as normal mono would be? I presume it would be as it seems to have very similar properties.

Cheers,

Andy

Andy,

Not used all the ones you mention but I have used vanish, not alot of stretch but I found that it was very poor on abrasion resistance, went in the bin after a couple of barbel fishing trips

Sensithin is a prestretched mono, very thin for its breaking strain but again useless as far as abrasion resistance is concerned, I wouldn't use it again unless I was fishing open water with no weed/snags etc.

I use Korda iq flurocarbon for hooklinks in 15lb, quite stiff but seems to be more abrasion resistant than any other f/c I've used.

Have used Vanish for hooklengths and had fish to 30lb+ on them, really rate this as a hooklength, i know some people have used it all the way through, but does work out a tad expensive, have also used it for leaders and cant fault it.
Dont use Superglue on this line as it does tend to make it go brittle.

Spiderwire, i used this along time ago on Johnsons Railway lake and caught from there on it, short 5 inch hooklinks, very thin in diameter, the 20lb and 30lb are exactly the same diameter, did tend to lose its colour in the water after a while so we used to use an indeliable marker to colour it up. Stopped using it because a lot of places banned it because of reports that the spiderwire was cutting into the fishes mouths and causing damage, never had any problems though.

he others i cannot coment on as i have never used them.

Hope this helps...

Thanks for the info chaps. I dont think i will use the fluoro type lines but i may well have a go with the braids as they seem okay as fishing weedy waters as they float quite well.

Dont know about the fireline though, feels like a braid, kinks like a braid but looks just like a mono, weird, lol
