Right, which hooks are best for each bait, that is, which kind of patern (?) should you use for a pop up as opposed to a bottom bait, and why?

i think i have been told this before but i cant get it to stick, is it hte wider gape hooks for pop ups? i am not sure but if so, why are these better than just any old hook?

i hope that makes sense?!
