What are peoples views on using their summer fishmeals in winter. How effective do you think they are in winter when compared to birdfoods etc?

Also, has anyone got a good cheap winter recipe as I'll only make it out a couple of times this winter and have very little money?

hi animal.
personaly i use the same bait in the winter as i use in the summer,as it seems pure madness to suddenly change from a bait that the carp are use to eating, to a new one not the way a lot of people would go but thats me.

if you realy are not willing to use the same bait as you have been useing, and you are only going to fish a couple of times through the winter, why not use ready mades (sorry paul) ,but they do work, plus you dont have to worry about keeping them fresh.

i always have a couple of bags of ready mades (sorry paul) , in the bottom of my bag.

there is also another way you could go, if you have been useing a fishmeal bait, and if you have any of you flavours ect, left you could buy a bag of fishmeal and a bag of say hi-nu-val, and mix them 50/50,and then you would have the best of both worlds(use the same levels of flavours-attractors as you used in your summer bait).
hope this is of some help to you.

I use ready-mades too, Noddy!
Not in the UK though.
I do not think incorporating fishmeals in the winter is helpful. I've written a piece about this in January's Carpworld.
The inclusion of a small percentage of low temperature fshmeals I do feel can be beneficial in winter, but the coarser ingredients at a significant level is a no, no, in my book.

Filthy,
If your looking for a good, cheap, winter bait. try Quality baits.
They do a birdfood base mix at £1.50 a kilo,

Ive used it and it works well all year.

Happy Hauling.

Filthy,
Depends on the fishmeal used and what other ingredients are in the base. I use a 50%+ fishmeal base all year with no detriment to catching (no added oils though - well not fish based ones anyway) Some of the better LT meals are as digestable as any other of the fine quality protein ingredients, it's just that they are a fraction of the price.
Did you get the email?
Happy Carping

Hi Pete,
I did not get your email which is unusual as I usually have no problems with it (only one, once).

if your confident engough to use single hook baits try mainline hi leakage pop up ready mades . they are a top product and really catch . been using them for 2 winters now, even in the summer sometimes. caught my PB common this weekend on one 22 1/2lb. if your short of cash like me there under a £5 for 30 or so and come in different sizes

hope this helps

Isn't £5 for 30 or so pop-ups a complete rip off????? (aimed at all 'big' bait firms)

I thought 'normal' boilies were expensive but 20 odd pop ups? Come on!!!!!!

Makes you think they'd pimp their mother if she could bring the punters in doesn't it?

Pete B, did you get my mail or is it stiil not working right?
