andy d, What's wrong with the Snake Pit? I have heard it is a lovely lake with nice quiet surroundings. . . not I am sure someone will know and hopefully post - but have you looked in the BK list of carp waters? There must be something in there. I have also found that anywhere I want to fish in the UK the first stop is the local tackle shops - if you ask the right questions, appear genuine, serious and interested then you can usually get some good leads. Its then the usual round of phone calls etc. The other option, and one I like to do, is to get the OS map out and look for all the blue bits - you would be suprised at what you can find on a really small scale map - and just (carefully and thoughtfully) visit them. That's what Chris Yates used to do and look what happened to him! hope this helps Steve

Andy, If it's a NICE syndicate water you want, try RMC's Amwell. Whilst it's not in Essex (Hertfordshire) it's a great place to fish, quiet, picturesque, secluded and with some great fishing...£125 pa can't be bad! Simon

Andy If you decide on Amwell watch out for the tree`s as things/bodies tend to fall out out of them when you least expect it. Chris S

Don't worry Andy, Chris finds my tree climbing (falling) exploits hilarious Yeah, Amwell's not easy but then again I guess it's not difficult, let's face it if I can catch from there I think anyone could! Have a chat with Ian, I'm sure he can arrange for you to have a look round..... Cheers Simon

This is a little bit of leg pulling regarding Simon N, if you ask nicely he may tell you the story. Chris S

Have you thought about fishing Walthamstow reservoir`s, you have a choice from 5 resevoirs, fairly easy to huge in size and hard, fish go from low doubles upto 40 plus all for 5 or 6 pounds a day ticket I call that value for money. The only people you normaly see are other anglers and bird watchers, nice and quiet as well. There are another two resevoirs one used to be on a syndicate type ticket and there was a waiting list and the other which is just so huge it is scary I think you can fish if you have a season ticket. Lots of people do not like it because there is no night fishing and gates open at about 7 in the morning sometimes earliar. You will have to have a sense of humour because the wildlife only has to hear the swoosh of a catapault and they all dive on your baits. It is near a main road but once you are in there and in a swim away from the road it is nice and peaceful. Just an idea. Chris S [This message has been edited by Chris S (edited 19-06-2000).]

Have you heard about Maldon Angling Society? They are a fairly good club with plenty of 20lb+ fish to be had. If you look them up on excite they have a site that appears near the top of the search. Also there is another large club called Billericay and District Angling that has lots of waters in the Essex area (including one rumoured to be an ex mainline water). They can be contacted on 01268 734468

Cheers Robbie, I'm actually a member of Billericay but have only fished one of the lakes. Does anyone alse out there fish these waters. Chris, I used to fish No1 at Walthamstow in the late eighties, and may well go back there for odd days sessions this year.

Sorry Paul, never heard of them. Andyd, I fish Southminster fairly regularly but I must admit it is not a touch on Straights Mill. There are plenty of mid to upper doubles to be had but the 20's are very few and far between. If you do have a look over there pit 1 or 3 are your best bet, pit 6 or 8 if you are desperate to catch. I was in pit 1 last night and had 3 fish, all around the 10lb mark. Have you thought about Asheldham? It is a very mature pit that is full of wild carp and can also produce a fairly good stamp of fish

Andyd I am sorry but I am more of a mid week fisherman. If you ever have a go at Southminster don't hesitate to ask any questions and I will try to help
