I have never undertaken any kind of baiting plan before, but this next month, for various reasons I have the chance to do 8 days on Manor Farm. I would be VERY interested to hear from you all, on how you would tackle a session like this. Would going down every other night for a couple of weeks before hand and getting some bait in, be the way to go? My plan will be to try and find the fish each day if I can, rarther than sitting in a bivvy all week, waiting fir them to come to me. I know this has been covered in various boos/mags, but I would very much like to hear from some sponsor free carpers. After all, even chucking in a kilo ever other day works out quite expensive (well I think it is). This will be my first session of over 48 hours and I am keen to maximise my time and energy, so ANY advice/opinions at all will be appreciated. Thanks in advance

I could tell you MarcB but I am not sponsor-free!
I find it quite insulting that you think 'sponsored bait anglers' do not give impartial/are not capable of giving impartial advice. There are probably only a dozen of us across the country tied up with Nutrabaits, Mainline, Hutchy, Nash etc. How do you think we got into this situation? By knowing about bait and by catching many carp over many years, from many waters. And all of us to my knowledge give impartial advice. Most carp anglers are not fools you know!

Paul, my comment about sponsor free carpers, was throw away and not intended to offend, I guess we are all guilty of saying stupid things some times and today it's my turn! what I meant was that I didnt just want someone to tell me to stick 10K of brand X in and I will catch. Its my fault I didn't explain it very well, please ignore that comment. I often forget that something written in a post as a light harted comment can look serious, but those smilies just get on my tits!
Actually Paul, whilst writing the post I was hoping that you would be able to offer me some advice. So please forgive my ignorance, It was never my intention to insult you or anyone else in this forum. I will try not to let my fingers overtake my brain in future.

Good luck with it, just use a bait that has done well for you in the past. I would say I haven't fished Manor at all but like any water location is the main thing, see where everybody is fishing and try somewhere else, in other words do your own thing. Check the snags and put some bait there, even if you can't fish there. When those fish move out they may be more likely to try your bait.
With regards to baiting up, you need to know where the fish will feed, rotting bait will catch nowt so if not sure keep it in the bag!

Thanks Paul, I am told that mainline fishmeals do well there (by Roy the head baliff) So I am torn between trying something different or getting on 'it'. The only features I have found are 2 gravel bars, and there arn't too many places near snags or trees to put bait, that someone else wouldn't find. I saw fish crashing like mad at first light near to one of the bars, and whilst most people slept (3.30am-4.am), I found the fish most mornings. So I guess I should either bait up and try to anticipate the fishes morning show, or cast single hook baits to these fish. I have noticed the fish move around an awful lot. All the people I spoke to were friendly and we generally swaped 'info'. My biggest disapoinment came in the shape of a certain 'name' that is a regular on manor, who dispite my polite approach and offer of a cup of tea, gave me a look of 'no chance'! even though he was leaving and didn't seem in a rush. I was discussing only the other day with My girlfriend and Richard Gardner about how much more friendly carp fishing in general has become. All the guys like Ian Russell, Frank Warwick, and Paul, seem keen to discuss our common interest and I have a great deal of respect for these great fishermen. It was a bit of a slap in the face, but I will give him the benefit of the doubt and put it down to him having a bad day. After all we all have them. Ooops sorry I went off on one, back to the question can anyone give me advice on tackling an 8 day session, and in particular the bait?

Yes Dave, I think it best we don't reveal his identity. I suppose he is entitled to act anyway he wants. Just a bit of a disapointment thats all

Mr Selman

I don't see why you should feel "quite insulted" by MarcB's comments. At no point does he question your ability to give good/impartial advice. If he want's advice from non-partial anglers then that's his perogative surely?

As the moderator of these BB's perhaps you should chill out a little and not get "insulted" so easily?

Perhaps you should take up bivvy yoga!

Actually Paul, after reading my post again, and thinking about it, I didn't actually say or imply that you were not able to offer impartial advice. Anyhow apology still stands, sorry if I offended you in any way.

BTW If I have to read another article from Sir Cundiff (sp) that is a glorified advert for a certain Nutrabaits recipie, I may well puke. I am sure JC (among others can offer advice (of the impartial kind) and do on a regular basis, but if someone wanted to read an article on the new Porsche 911 and all it contained were references to Castrol Synthetic oil, people would soon complain.

It's as if Paul thinks everyone is 'having a go' at him when people reply to his posts.
Maybe it's me, but I get the impression he doesn't think 'amateurs' like us should be disagreeing with a his points.
All because Paul is well known doesn't mean that what he thinks is right.
Anyway if we all had the same views and used the same tactics as each other......
a) There would be no point of these Forums both on the Internet and at shows
b) There would be no famous faces (like Paul) because we would all be using the same bait and fishing the same way!!!!!
I think Paul should 'chill out' and stop getting so stressed at other posts (remember fishing is supossed to be relaxing)

I don't mean to be rude just saying what I think.
