Not a new topic, but one that causes some debate. I,m thinking of the success that some anglers have by fishing a different flavour/colour/size/texture hookbait over an established food bait. Any ideas/experiences/recommendations?

I quite regularly fish with a different hookbait to my freebies.Last year I had some good results fishing over big beds of hemp/groats/corn/Trout pellets/tares with just a boilie - no freebies - one boilie hookbait.Essentials creamseed pop-up's are superb and are very visible.

I also regularly use a different pop-up (usually a more visible bait) over a PVA bag of other baits and this has also worked well for me on one very hard locallake in particular.

One of my mates puts in plenty of bait but nearly always fishes a Nutrabaits cranberry readymade over the top of it.He catches a lot of fish.

My thinking is that if the baiting situation is good it probably doesn't matter too much what is on the hook as the fish will have it anyway........but you'll never know for sure!
