We got a new carp dog, a chocolate lab mix, with a good nose for fish. So far I cant get him to distinguish between a big school of carp and a school of big carp but as he matures he will be able to tell the difference and let me know. He also has some learning to do with boilie tasting, he prefers the stinkers right now but as his nose matures he will begin to appreciate the delicate nuisances from the fruit boilies, so right now he doesnt get to suggest what boilies to use. He certainly can judge when a good batch of maize is ready but awful things happen about 4 hours later if he gets to eat any of it! Oat

Hi Paul, I had to put the preserver on him because he likes to jump out at full speed when he smells a school of fish, I have to slow down for him to identify what kind of fish they are but as a puppy he gets excited sometimes. Notice the handle on the back, makes it much easier to lift him back into the boat! My only other problem with him is he thinks its funny to run his tail under the bite alarms and set them off when the bite slows and he barks at racoons at night so we cant doze off nightfishing. I dont know what it is with dogs and maize, but I feed all our seven lakes with 120kg dry of crushed maize each week during our close season, which I soak in dustbins for 48 hours. After that, we use big scoops to throw it in. Our yorkie terrier is fond of eating any scraps of maize that fall out of the scoops even though they give him constipation and sometimes make him throw up.... Eyecrazy

You just cant stop him eating the maize even though it makes him ill every time!!!! haha

Paul, A little canned pumpkin will clean him right out in about 4 hours. I have switched to barbless, less chance of me getting bit trying to unhook a boilie eating dog! Oat

My dog definately prefers the stinkers. Fishmeals with belacan in them and halibut pellets being her faves. She's also a tad fond of goose/swan and rabbit droppings!

Night sessions usually end up with severe lack of sleep from her watching out for rats and swans. I think I need to put carpet over the groundsheet to reduce the noise of her constantly getting up and lying down again a bit
