Been busy for a while but some free time is on the cards... I am dismayed to see that the same old rubbish is still out there about baits and rigs... for gods sake, when are people going to realise that rigs are condition specific and that the majority are designed by idiots who have no grasp of the way a carp feeds... Bungee rig? chocolate teapot comes to mind... tongue2 I want to start the 'shoot Danny Fairbrass Party' on the grounds of putting the world out of its misery.. wave

Bait, fair enough to have enquiring questions, which should be answered, but some of the total cr*p that is written about bait and bait ingredients defies belief... I have read a recent carp mag and nearly committed Hari Kari.. the knowledge of some bait 'gurus' is somewhat lacking, if not totally flawed wall

Am I over reacting or is carp fishing in a never ending loop of b*llsh*t.... BoomSmilie_anim

Does this kind of thing still really get recycled every couple of years? woot

Not over reacting Pete. The bull poo poo and bigging it up all the time has got so bad recently that I totally ignore most things to do with carping now and just get on with it (when I get the time). Every water seems to be populated by dickheads that have been at it 5 mins and try to tell you how to fish too.

"Only pop-ups work in here mate, you'll get nowt on bottom baits. You need a choddy on or you'll blank" etc...

Any specifics on the bait articles Pete tongue2?

Would yourself be prepared to do some more articles?

Personally i think it would be interesting from a readers point, a debate between bait gurus about the pro's and cons of individual ingredients wink.

Yep totally agree, its gone from bad to worse in recent years.

As a bit of an experiment I have not used any boilies or manufactured bait ie pellets etc over the past 12 months. While not setting the world on fire I have held my own. Yes people have caught more than me, but I am up there perhaps in the top 10%. Lets put it this way, by far the biggest majority are either blanking or have caught less. smile

Its just the sort of water where other factors are far more important than bait quality. The water is fairly large, stock is low and the smaller fish and bird population so high that it would probably take you years to get enough bait through to the fish to get it established.

You would not believe the amount of people who turn up, spod for england, lash out a choddy and think thats the way to fish for a mostly fragmented stock of less than 1 1/2 fish per acre.

May work on a over populated hungry water thats ideal for filming a dvd or tv program however, back in the real world of the frozen north? tongue2

There have been a mine field of topics covered within the pages of this forum over the 6 years that i have been posting.Every aspect of bait and its application has been scrutinised, disected and debated over and quite basically thrashed to death. All a reader has to do is flick through old posts and he or she will have the information at there finger tips.I can understand your frustration Pete as i thought the very same wall

Unless something revolutionary turns up then folk are only going over the same ground. The angling press has far more of a problem with continuous article rotation covered by a few different pictures and a change in author name upset Perhaps you are correct Cal. Some FRESH ideas would be a refreshing change my friend! thumbsup Lets chat some bait bollox thumbsup

Same old, indeed Peter. I've not been on here for quite some time now, nor fished for carp since 2007/2008 but thought I'd have a quick read through some of the latest posts and discussions. Its like I've never been away from the carp scene!

With the exception of one slightly alarming thing that certainly wasn't around a few years back..... spodding out rock salt!

Maybe things have been taken as far as they can regarding rigs and baits. I can't ever see anything as revolutionary as the hair rig cropping up! Round and round in circles...
