I fish for a few hours every day, Joe thumbsup

At the moment I fish one of my lakes if it is free for fishery management purposes, removing doubles to make space for the bigger fish, although my last doubles session resulted in fish of 38, 36, 32 and 22....and just one double which I moved.....

I also have a 2 acre lake a few yards from my study from where I am writing this. I tend to fish the house lake in the evenings...my remote sounder is by my PC and I can see my rods through the window....its not proper carp fishing though is it...? thumbsup

The lake is full of big rudd, roach and small carp and I have rediscovered the joy of float fishing again.... thumbsup

As you know Joe, I fish most weekends. That said because of one thing or another, I have not been out much over the last moth or so. Hopefully I will get a good run through autumn, which is my favourite time of year.

Been a bit unlucky this year its almost like I am cursed! Last year I suffered from a lot of hook pulls until I worked round the problem. With that issue behind me I was looking forward to seeing what I could catch over the year. Ironically this year no hook pulls, but most of the fish I have hooked have managed to find a open water snags of some sort. Various pegs and spots yet the outcome has been the same. bash

I have managed a couple of half decent fish, but they are not nearly enough to dull the pain of the lost ones. frown

Been doing a little float fishing myself. My youngest daughter has been really interested in giving fishing a go so I have introduced her to the delights of catching roach and perch from the local canal. She has really enjoyed it and caught her fair share. For me, as well as the face value satisfaction it has been nice to get back to my roots. Had an amusing moment (in an ironic sort of way) when a kid of about 19 asked me “are you sure your fishing on the bottom?” following it up with the gem of an observation that “a lot of people don’t know how to plub the depth properly you know!” I counted to ten while biting my lip, then smiled and assured him that I was fairly sure I was fishing on the bottom lol. grin

I've had carp rods out once this year for half a day whilst I was teaching my nephew how to fish. They were only half heartedly lobbed out so didn't expect to catch as it was more important to show the Padawan how to hook maggots properly, strike, play and unhook fish. He was most chuffed with getting bites almost every cast and had plenty of roach, perch and a couple of rudd, as well as a small common.
Other than that I've been too busy but since doing my feet in have managed a few sessions with ultralight lure stuff for perch and pike, great fun but a good perch is eluding me.

Chips, you have just got to fish a water with a forty in it and put the effort in to catch it... thumbsup

Terry Hearn had the Chertsey fifty at the weekend. It took him 18 months of hard fishing at the lake to catch it. But you can only catch fish of this size if they are there in the first place... ylsuper
