Hi all
This question is for those of us with a few grey hairs that are old enough to remember (or still use?!) baits made predominantly from milk proteins...

I'm looking to put together a milk protein mix that relies on the attractiveness of the ingredients themselves and the fact that nobody else is likely to be on a similar bait today. I'm not looking for an all-round nutrional package really, just ingredients that carp like to eat. I'll be using the bait from September through until March, in small quantities with no or minimal pre-baiting. I've used hi-nu-val in the past (a long time ago!), but would sooner make my own now.

The mix I intend to use is as follows: 3oz rennet casien, 3oz acid casien, 2oz lactalbumen, 1oz calcium caseinate, 1oz egg albumen. I'll add 10ml minamino, 10g betain and nothing else.

Does anybody familiar with rolling similar baits have a view as to whether I'm along the right lines and whether the mix is likely to roll ok and harden with a 40 - 60 second boil?

Cheers!

That should be long enough time for the baits to harden with that recipe but leave them for a few hours before freezing... ylsuper

Its a good Wilton base mix, and will catch but I feel it would be greatly improved and get a quicker response from the fish by adding a proven essential oil or oil/flavour combo or a powdered smell such as a high dose of Green Lipped Mussel or Liver.... thumbsup

I always swore by calf milk replacer. It may not be as high in protein as the traditional milks, but it is a balanced diet (or at least it is if you’re a calf whistle ) and more to the point it smells lovely and creamy. I know the bait buffs will be shaking their heads at this, but it just smells really nice and appetising.

Does that mean it adds to the attractiveness of the bait? I don’t know, perhaps somebody can tell us. It certainly smells like it should. Perhaps it is worth including for that alone, because confidence is a vital commodity in this game. thumbsup

Thanks chaps.

Don't you think the raspberry flavour in the Minamino is enough of an attractor Paul, or maybe I should add a few drops of black pepper oil?

And what about vitamins and minerals as attractors in their own right? Perhaps add equivit/ cyprivit or something like Boost 250?

I find it difficult to leave Black Pepper out of any bait, be it milk or fishmeal, so yes, it will improve the bait... thumbsup
