I've noticed in the last few weeks several herons next to cows in the fields...are they feeding on worms possibly churned up by the cows...?

I've counted up to six herons in a field of thirty cows..... Eyecrazy

I came up with the theory they were eating worms off the ground churned by the cows hooves.... Eyecrazy

I often see upto 6 of um in a field by one of the rivers I fish, the last time I saw them was after the field was harvested

I've even seen them 25 feet up in the confiers next to my pond and no I've got no flying fish in there

Cheeky little rotund fecker! lol

They've been in the 'inlaws' garden recently having a go at the pond. It can't be easy for them to get in as it's surrounded by tall hedge and trees, plus washing lines, etc. They will obviously have a go anywhere if they think there is food about. I used to often see a heron on a pond at work ramming frogs down its neck in the tall vegetation surrounding the pond (no fish in there)

There was one standing on the bamboo / mesh frame cover on my pond yesterday morning looking at my fish.

The begger stood their moving all round the frame for about 5 mins or so then realised he couldn't get in
