RAF LOGISTICS ANGLING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Despite a significant amount of anglers being forced to miss this event, due to Operational work commitments, seventeen teams still managed to attend this match, held at Ivy House Lakes in Wooton Bassett. At the draw a lot of anglers were predicting that the hot, bright conditions would make the fishing difficult but no one predicted just how hard the fishing would prove to be. The anglers were split into four sections of 13 anglers on the Old Canal, New Canal, Match Lake Outer and Island, with most anglers praying for a peg on the Match Lake.

Local angler and RAF Chef Smithy won the day. Fishing permanent peg 32 on the island, Smithy fed six pints of maggots using just his top two to bag 13.18KGS of Carp. Second placed Barry Cullen, on permanent peg 38 on the island, opted to fish paste in the margins to take 10.44KGS of Carp. 3rd placed Mark ‘Smurf’ Firth, peg 9 on the New Canal, fished pellet down the track to finish agonisingly close behind with 13.34KGS of small Carp and F1s.

On the team front RAF Mobility Alliance Just managed to take the honours by just 0.08KGS with 3 penalty points and 14.16KGS just ahead of RAF Lyneham Supply, also on 3 points, but with a combined weight of 14.08KGS. Third place went to RAF Movers Mix team who scored 5 points.

The after match raffle and the sponsorship money collected by the anglers raised over £5,000 for Help for Heroes and the Neuroblastoma Chlidrens Cancer Charity. The organisers would like to thank the following for their great support and donation of raffle prizes: AAR Int, Ace Baits, Benwick Sports, CC Moore, Dynamite, EZ Feeda, FOX, Halkon Hunt, HillBilly floats, Medusa Feeders, Milo, Mel Wilde at Octoplus, Preston Innovations, Pure Fishing, SBS Baits, Travin Plasic, WSB Tackle, Zebco, Harrisons and Al Dyer.
