My favourite is the Trakker A Lite.... thumbsup

It's light and folds up easy for mobility, quick to erect (oh, er, missus lol...) and converts from a brolly with sides to a full bivvy just by throwing the outer cover over it...wink
100% waterproof and stands up to the strongest winds...wink

Plus, it's a great price.... Eliterate

What's your choice of bivvy and why? wave

A nice canvas overwrap on my 50 inch Nubrolli which is beige and me on my blue bedchair. Thats cutting advance technology and not many people can have the income for that set up these days but its great. www.bluebedchairs.com

I can’t credibly argue the case for best bivvy however, I could perhaps put forward a contender for “best budget bivvy” and that’s the Chub Cyfish+.

Not the cheapest of the cheap bivvys but when you consider what you get for the price it amounts to an impressive package. You get the basic shelter which can be used like an umbrella and can squeeze into the smallest swims. You get a choice of two full zip on fronts, standard and mozzy, which can be used independent or combined to give you a full bivvy. Add to that the winter over wrap which is also included in the price and you have a bivvy for all options and seasons in one purchase. Included in the price they also come supplied with a tension strap, tension bars, ground sheet and a set of decent T bar pegs. So no add-ons at silly prices to make the bivvy practical like some of the big name shelters.

In use, (currently 100+ nights on the bank) I have found mine to be the ideal size, often squeezing it into little pegs previously considered umbrella only options, while still having enough space for all my kit without being claustrophobic. It has worn well and has comfortably stood up to all the extremes of weather this country could throw at it. Not having the space to dry out a bivvy, it has also been regularly abused by being stored wet, yet despite this poor practice it still remains water tight without being re-proofed (yet)!

There are only two slight negatives in my opinion: it’s a little on the heavy side, not excessively just the standard weight associated with pram hood style shelters and it does suffer from the old dripping from the door problem associated with none peaked shelters of this type.

If the latter is considered a real problem you can always do what I have done and purchase the optional extreme canopy. Yes its an extra cost but at £80 its a comparatively cheap addition that makes an already very versatile package into the ultimate one bivvy fits all package. The extreme canopy can be used in a couple of ways zip off the front section and it’s a second skin with a peak, that only takes up the same foot print as the standard bivvy or retain the front section and you have a very spacious two man shelter. I can now choose from a single skin small umbrella type shelter to a very big twin skin two man bivvy and virtually every permutation in-between with the one product.

Perhaps not “the best bivvy” but its got to be a contender for the best budget and perhaps the most versatile package without giving your bank manager a serious shock. thumbsup

ive had the pioneer ultralight for the last few seasons, and i can honestly say its the best bivvie/brolly ive ever owned, when used alone without the front, heavyduty groundsheet and winter skin its incredibly light and quick to erect and put away, the front can be zipped on or removed in seconds and when used with 4 storm poles its as solid as a rock, also in the autumn when used with the winter skin there is no condensation.

I find it the perfect size too, just big enough for everything i need for a 3 nighter and not too low either which is a plus for my bad back.

I hear due to the cost of the alluminium centre boss they are no longer in production bash

I have the specimen version to use just as a brolly or for short summer sessions. Good bit of kit, but I would not like to spend much time under it in winter. eek

I like my creature comforts and when it gets really cold and wet the pioneer, even with it's cap on, is just a little too spartan to get my old bones through a couple of nights of serious winter fishing. grin

Great shelter though. notworthy thumbsup

For the last 10-12 years I've had an Evolution brolly, and do most of my sessions under this. I did purchase a specimen Ultralite a couple of years ago but sold it last year as I'd hardly ever used it, and in my infinite wisdom I purchased an evolution xs bivvy. Having now done approx 6 sessions under the evo bivvy it is glaringly obvious that its not a patch on the quality of the older evolution and is now about to be consigned to the local refuse tip. So am now looking for a suitable replacement, the Chub Cyfish is a distinct possibility
