Back on the tench lake Tuesday evening, and managed a couple before it became too dark to see a float. Staying on for the night, I topped up the swim with about 20 UCN enzyme boilies, 30 had gone in 2 hours earlier. The same on my other rod, both cast close to the lily pads opposite. Now, I have never caught a carp from this lake, not through lack of trying, but it does have a low carp density, unlike those southern waters. 1.00am and a couple of bleeps had me by the rods, the bobbin was at the top and was about to pull out of the clip when I struck (gently). WOO-HOO! after a terrific fight I landed my first carp from the lake, not the largest in there at 19lb 14oz, but I was well pleased. After pratting about weighing and trying a few photos, I had a few more slurps of guinness and climbed back into my sleeping bag. While zipping up, the other rod was away, this time a tench of 7lb 12oz, always welcome, but better on a softer rod. Hard to sleep after that, but one does.

Now where was I? During the last month I've still been out dangling damn near every other day, either midweek overnight 8pm to 6am, or 4 hours after work, and maybe Friday night/Sat lunchtime.....then change lakes. ....and not forgetting 5 hours Sunday morning. I seem to be doing more floatfishing than usual this year, but if the tench and roach are having it, then why not? A couple of months ago I purchased 5kg of a new bait (to me), with the best intentions of ordering some every month. However, there was a problem with delivery, as the second batch would have arrived while I was abroad in sunny Spain. So, I fully intended to order it just before I went, then promptly forgot to. It's an age thing. So, I ended up buying a 1kg bag of a bait with a very similar name from Stapeley angling. To cut a long story short, I had caught 3 carp and 1 tench on the 5kg of bait, and I have caught 12 carp and 4 tench (and lost a couple) on the 1kg of bait. I make that a 20 to 1 advantage of the second bait. NUFF SAID! I forgot, I had 3 more carp on the second bait this morning....you do the sums. ....also this morning, 2 more carp on a bait purchased yesterday Harv, and loadsa roach and a crucian on't float.

..........well, 2008 has possibly been one of my worst years yet for fishing. Must try harder in 2009. However, Friday night I fished after work in Shropshire, managing to catch 3 carp of 16+ 19+ and 20+ , and 4 or 5 bream, so there is hope for me yet. HERE ENDETH MY BLOG. Tight lines to all, and I wish you all a HAPPY NEW YEAR.* Ian. * except Brian, 'cos he's nuts, and mt-ed 'cos he's probably sunning himself on a beach, and miketg 'cos he won't read this anyway.
