Wonder if Gary Bayes or Geoff Bowers for example, give evidence on whether their baits are harmful to fish or do we just take it for granted that they're not.

cotswold baits used to do a liquid protease enzyme years ago called liqui-split,then you have nutrabaits addit digest, which according to pete b is useless?,it did make milk protein baits harder to roll,so it must work! im sure pete b will tell me otherwise.

Looking forward to reading the forthcoming posts on this subject that seems to be drawing me more and more into understanding what i am actually using
I am in no way a specialised bait buff, more of a where and when to apply type of bloke, though i enjoy reading (to an extent)the words from those that know.

Excellent article once again Pete

Piers is going to post some pictures of his pond fish that have been munching enzymes for a couple of years... no exceptional things to report apart from growth rate... this is also a closed environment... ;\)

Turning to other baits... I hear very surprising stories about enzymes... that they are added prior to boiling and are subsequently destroyed when boiled and the bait is still hard.... ERRRRR have I missed something here????... enzymes attack proteins... you have to get the levels/pH/temperature right, but they attack proteins nonetheless... well.... anyone care to name a binder (by that I mean a proper binder) that is NOT protein based? True, enzymes break specific bonds and you can choose a couple that do not totally destroy binding qualities... however... and his is a big however... those enzymes have limited effect.... unless combined with others you have a bait that is not broken down...

Netbuster... Addit digest is not useless.... in a paste it is OK....

Tudge... Cheers mate...

For those that question if UCN's Enzyme bait is dangerous or not..

I have captive fish in a 5x2x2, a 6x2x2 tank and a 3000 gallon pond.
I started using the Enzyme for fishing in 2004.. and at the same time started to feed it exclusivly to my fish.. For 2 years the 'Enzyme' bait was my captive fishes sole food source.
It was also fed on a regular basis to the fish in my parents pond, in total over 100 fish..

This 2 YEAR TRIAL was carried proir to the company actually being formed, so well before its public release..

Heres a pic of a fish that was spawned in early summer 2004, I got it late summer 2004 at about 1.5 inches.. this is April 2006...

Remember.. Its sole food was Enzyme.. look healthy enough?

Its still alive too... as is every other fish \:\)

Ill post more 2mora..

" anyone care to name a binder (by that I mean a proper binder) that is NOT protein based?"

Trying not to distract from the thread subject but as already mentioned, good read this month Pete. It's becoming easier to understand by each installment. Not many scientific long words this month so was able to keep up with it. Hope there's more in the near future.

Years ago?......Define YEARS AGO!......Seems to me that you are implying "back in the day"!

When in fact they are a mere "notion in ya fathers sack ;)". Good bait though

Pete, fight your corner buddy.

kind regards Jeffrey

"Pete, fight your corner buddy"

You know me mate... I never roll over...

So... enzymes are safe in a closed environment.... \:D

Shall we now address their use in a more widespread environment or is safety now a dead question???

Turning to other baitmakers claims about enzymes.... Sorry... don't believe them... what is being claimed is beyond the laws of chemistry as understood today..... I look forward to replies on this point.... Or perhaps one or two of them should submit a paper for consideration for a nobel prize... ;\)
