Alcohol may be harder to give up than poppy derivatives
Taken in context, for an alcoholic the above statement absolutley correct, it assumes of course the person concerned is abusing both drugs.
but as a sweeping generalisation I don't agree that alcohol is more addictive.
As I said previously, alcoholics are born, current research indicates alcohol addiction is part of a persons genetic makeup, it does however need sparking off. Heroin addicts are not born addicted to heroin, (unless of course the mother uses herion during her pregnancy, then the child is born with a habit by default), its like tea and coffee...an aquired taste.
Andy,I agree with the you 100% that if, like yourself, you are not a born alcoholic it's less likeley that you will become an alcoholic, but born an alcoholic...it's that indivduals destiny.
And I think at the last count there were over 500,000 alcohlics in the UK, I personally know at least 12 people who I consider to be alcoholics...2 of them on my mothers side of the family, and I dont include myself, I've beem a 'recovering alcoholic' for over 5 years....and extremeley proud of the fact
