i take it you've never watched anybody close to you die of alcohlism

You presume wrong Paul. \:\(

I have also witnessed the damage it can do long before it gets to that sorry stage, families ripped apart etc.

I never said it was good, just questioned the claim that it was more addictive. Which is why I wrote.

Quote:
I totally accept that at least for some people alcohol can be just as damaging as any drug.

The key word there is SOME

For people who are susceptible to alcohol addiction, drink is a real evil, as damaging as any drug. \:\(

That said there are millions of people out there who have had a serious fling with booze in their late teens early 20's who never go on to develop an addiction to it.

Do you think the same would be true if it was socially acceptable for 70% of young people to get wrecked on heroin every weekend for a number of years?

Alcohol may be harder to give up than poppy derivatives for some individuals, but as a sweeping generalisation I don't agree that alcohol is more addictive.

So now we know why Bri has such a big fishing box. For all his beer.

Taken in context, for an alcoholic the above statement absolutley correct, it assumes of course the person concerned is abusing both drugs.

As I said previously, alcoholics are born, current research indicates alcohol addiction is part of a persons genetic makeup, it does however need sparking off. Heroin addicts are not born addicted to heroin, (unless of course the mother uses herion during her pregnancy, then the child is born with a habit by default), its like tea and coffee...an aquired taste.

Andy,I agree with the you 100% that if, like yourself, you are not a born alcoholic it's less likeley that you will become an alcoholic, but born an alcoholic...it's that indivduals destiny.

And I think at the last count there were over 500,000 alcohlics in the UK, I personally know at least 12 people who I consider to be alcoholics...2 of them on my mothers side of the family, and I dont include myself, I've beem a 'recovering alcoholic' for over 5 years....and extremeley proud of the fact \:\)

Lets get this right shall we lads, both alcohol and nicotine are taxed by the government and that is the only reason that society is allowed to contract lung cancer or alcoholism, purely because our so called fcukin leaders get their frigging wages through it and they are the biggest frigging law breakers out there

Now i dont know whats happened here to warrant Bri to get banned from this site, but i liked him on here and at times he was a breath of fresh air.

I have had first hand experience of what drink and drugs can do to a person, and for fcuk sake,if what ive just read is what Bri said is correct, then do you really think that warrents him being banned????

I myself having spent over 24yrs on the doors of pubs and clubs have been privy to far greater insults from sober folk and taken it on the chin, not very forgiving are we fellas?

Or is it only ads and mods that are allowed to publicly belittle people on this forum??????At least the bloke pm"d his [censored] \:D

Dean I know you mean well, but you are expressing an opinion based upon only seeing part of the picture.

Brian was previously banned and was only given back his posting rights after he promised to abide by the site rules.

We have a very experienced moderator team who are by comparison very lenient and relaxed.

Same goes for you John, the PM was simply the icing on the cake. ;\)

Fact is, if we have to delete things a member can be apparently banned for nothing. \:o

The general forum member sees very little of the cr*p posted by some members due to active Moderators & Admin.... that can mean that they feel a member has been excluded unjustly... this is not so, this is the least moderated (most tolerant) site anywhere... many things posted on here would be cut short at the start on any other site... but.. we still have lines that cannot be crossed... ;\)
