I have a large pond & about 9 years ago when it was dug I put in about 10 roach
Big BIG mistake they bread like BillyO

But Hohum you live & learn

About six weeks ago I put some pond weed in my pond to help filter it as it was quite soupy

Yesterday & today I have found 12 dead roach; just roach, no Orf or goldfish or the mirrors that I acquired about fives years ago are all Ok

I have not put any new fish in for years.
The only thing I did put in was six weeks ago & it was the floating weed - --

Any answers

Cheers

Mike

Mike supposed you checked your PhD etc
but some fish are more prone to changes to their habitat than others.
Maybe it could be somthing with the weed you introduced to your pond some kind of parasite or somthing else
I know this is of little help fella but you gt to think what you introduced into your pond environment to cause these deaths

PhD, you lost me at “Hello”

Yes I can only assume it is the weed.

I think it’s too late to pull it out now

If it’s just the Roach I can live with that – Fricken Roach bred like rabbits

Not sure what I’ll do if the other fish go belly up?

I will watch & wait

Anyways up Have you got your Passport out & ready as the mighty Blues are off to Europe

Ive edited out part of your post mike.. what you mentioned was illegal \:\)

Orf are rather fragile fish.. and if it was anything to do with water quailty, I would expect them to be the ones to show the first signs of distress.

Most likely you have introduced something to the pond when you put the weed in.. parasite at a guess..

Keep an eye on the other fish.. and if they start to show signs of distress.. get down your local aquatics shop and explain the problem.. Im sure they will be able to sell you something.. ;\)

OK Piers Message recieved & understood

So far no more fish deaths
Yes it can only be the weed but a friend of mine said he has seen some roach & bream dead on two farm ponds about 15 miles away

I will watch & wait - hopefully the others in my pond will be OK

The Orf & gold fish are showing no signs of illness & the Orf you would think should be first to pop their cloggs

Cheers

& thanks

Mike

PS I was only kidding about the mirrors going on thier holls as a friend fished that venue & he is terrified of a fish kill
But point taken
Mike

It may be worth buying a water quality test kit.. simple to use and fairly cheap.. 20 quid should get you one that covers Ph, Nitrate, Nitrite and Ammonia.. and it will last ages.

Just for peace of mind if nothing else \:\)

its not phd,its just the ph!and if there was a drastic change in that the orfe would DEFINATELY show signs.as a keeper of japanese koi,i would recommend a large SLOW water change and some added aeration with the new water
