So, i thought ill have a go at writing a blog

Well, on Wednesday it was my birthday, i am now 15. So i decided to by two new reels, i choose Shimano Baitrunner Aero 8000 GTE-B's. Today was my first day out with them. I arrive at a swim known as the turtle and cast my first rod just behind a smallish island of reeds and the second rod on a farely large cove. Being as it was very cold i thought i would just use single baits as the fish wouldn't be on the munch. I then sat behind motionless rods for 2 1/2 hours and then decide for new tatics. I went for single fishe with a pva bag of 3mm troutpellet and crushed boilies and the second rod was a snowman rig fished over a small pva bag of mixed pellets. Almost instantly i got a very finicky take but lost as i had not set the baitrunner very well on the new reels so i cast out again and reset the drag and the baitrunner clutch again. About 45 minutes later i had another take being a little mirror with the biggest gut i've ever seen. I went very dead again after that so i decided to bait up quite heavily as the fish were munching out on any bait they could find. By Now two kids have set up in the swim opposite and are casting out into my baited areas every five minutes so i explained to them and they didnt get the point so i shouted at them and they soon moved but 10 minutes later they were setting up next to me shouting at eachother . they eventually went when they realised they wern't gonna catch anything. So now i put on double baits to try and pick out the bigger fish and fished them over the baited areas and it worked The day ended with 6 fish with 5 doubles the biggest being a 15lb Common and a very happy me.

Thursday 28th December. So...this time i've got a new set of rods that i got from santa. i also had a few other little bits that i had asked for. Me and my mate trecked up the other end of the lake to the biggest swim on the lake known as beach with the far reed lining being about 60yards out. I could see a little bit of movement in the swim so decided to pult out a bit of corn just too keep the fish in the area while i was setting up. So i set up and cast out and cattapulted so source boilies out. 10 mins later a load of swans and ducks come in and clear out every single bit of bait out so i reeled all 3 rods in and re bagged them up and put a handfull of boilies on each spot. The first rod was cast to a large bay at the back which i knew there would be carp in there as there was plenty of slack there. The middle rod went about 30 yards out to a large reed bed i also put some more corn out on this spot. and the final rod went about 2ft from the back reed lining. A few hours passed by with nothing but a few bites, but then rob's rod ripped of and the fish had gone right behind a large island of reeds, he pulled it round and landed a 9lb mirror. I baited up again using sticks. boilies and corn. I got a slow but steady take, which resulted in another 9lb mirror.A nother hour passed with no action except a 6/7 pounder for rob. I decided to opt for just a single 10mm pop-up fished with a small stick about an inch of the bottom and on the bay rod a snowman rig. 25 mins later i had a few bleeps on the pop-up the swinger just kept rising and falling for 2 minutes so i loosened the baitrunner to give the fish more line to play still it didnt run so i took all the weight off the swinger and fished a slack line, straight away the fish took line steadily so i leant in to the ish and landed a 7lb fully scaled mirror with the most perfect hook hold you could ask for. I caught another 2 small commons during the coarse of the day, nothing massive but i dont expect multiple catches during winter and i got some action on my new rods.

Sunday, 31 December. So its the last day off 2006 and I decide to go fishing and have my last chance of catching a 20 before the new year. Now...I have just started to use more complex rigs. So yesterday I went to the tackle shop bought a few terminal tackle bits to tie up these so called complex rigs. Last night I poked around on the net found the rigs I was after and tied them up, checked them in a glass of water to make sure they were sitting how I wanted them, perfect I fought cant wait until tommorow. I woke up late, but oh well life's a bitch, so I load all the gear onto the trolly and rush to the swim I was hopping for known as the three bays. I cast one rod into each bay, the first rod with a single 15mm mainline pineapple juice pop-up on, the second rod had a snowman with a small bag of solars bag mix and the final rod had a single nash 10mm white chocolate pop-up. The first 45 minutes went by with one fish showing then I had a few bleeps on the snowman rod, but failed to produce a take. Ten minutes later I get an absolute screaming take on the pineapple pop-up, I leant in to what I felt like a good fish, could this be the twenty I have been waiting for? It fought well for just a few minutes and then it basically just swam into the net. Rob lifted the fish out in the net and i could see it wasn't the twenty i was after but was still a fair good size for the winter. Rob took a few shots and we weighed it in at 15lb 7oz(see attached image), just as we put it back the snowman rod rips off its a little scrapper at about 3lb. I baited up both the rods again, cast them out and sat down for a brew. A few hours passed with no action at all and not even a single fish showing. A few bleeps on the 10mm pop-up registered a slow take which produced a 10lb mirror. The rest of the day passed with no more action. Complex rigs, maybe they are the way foward for me, the seem to work well in the particular swim I was in as i doesn't usually fish this well in the winter with a standard hair rig.

Ive recently joined Colony Lakes in hadleigh and decided to have a dabble at the pike in blue lagoon. I bought some rudd and sprats from my local tacle shop, i decided to fish these on single trebbles with the trace pulled throught the rudd. I cast the first rod just under an other-hanging tree from an island and the secong around 10ft away from the bank as the pike feed real close in here. My cousin swings his rod to some close by reeds and spins with the other. An hour passed with plenty of surface action from the pike, then i get a drop-back and land a small jack.I re-baited the rod up and lobbed it out the same spot. About 25 mins later i get another drop back resulting in a slightly bigger jack. So, marks had no action so he puts a small dead-bait and light lead on his spin rod and i allow him to cast his rod to the spot i caught my prvious fish from. Another hour passed with plenty more surface action. Mark gets another drop back which gave a little harder fight and resulted in a 8lb pike. The rest of the day went by with sod all action, eventhough i tried everything from spining to freelineing to popped-up dead baits, but considering this was my first time piking on my own and on this new lake all went well and we was the only people who caught on the lake. As you can see from the first picture i wasnt very confident with holding them, but after the second capture and using the chainmail glove it was a doddle.

Have been putting a lot time in on Hadleigh Resovoir of late, bagging the odd twenty here and there with mainly high doubles in between. I went through a 'phase' through the summer were i kept pulling the hooks on several good fish and also losing a few to the dense weed, this had reall started to get to me. Now the carp fishing has started to slow up now the water temperature has started to drop, so i've been trying to fish as much as possible before the fishing becomes rock hard in the heart of winter. Arrived friday evening and the lakes pretty empty to my suprise, i headed for a swim known as the bush. With the wind pushing steadily in towards the bush it looked like the ideal swim. I began to setup slowly taking note of the several fish rising to my left. Got both the reads out to the chosen spots, the left was put in a bag and cast to the showing fish and the right was fished fairly close in. I woke up saturday morning to see that my hangers had not moved as such as a centimetre, Decided to leave the rods out until around 10:30am in hope off an early morning carp, but i failed miserably. So rods were wound in and new rigs attached, i decided to go for the pop up approach, fishing one at around 2inches and the other 4inches. At around 2pm i recieved a one-toner, only to lift into the fish and it drop off almost instantly. Its now nearly 6pm so i decide to wound in and rebait for the night ahead. I fished one rod with a mainline pro-acitve - pineapple dumbell topped off with half a fruitella pop up and the other rod still with the pop-up at 2inches. At 11pm i got another screaming take, short lived it turned out to be a tinca. Rod re-baited and cast to the same spot hoping the carp will later on move in. 2:00am got a few bleeps then another screamer, fairly legnthy battle resulted in a mint 18lb lightly scaled mirror. The wind was very chilling, i could bearly feel my fingers, so i decide against rebaiting the right hand rod. Its now sunday morning and to my suprise the right hand rod cast to the showing fish hasn't had so much as a single bleep. Again i waited until around 10:30am trying for the early morning margin carp, but once again it failed to produce. Both rods wound in again, realising all the action was coming from the bottom baits i opted to fish one rig snowman style, a stiff rig with a supple braided hair, the chosen bait was nash formula one bottom bait with a mainline fruitella pop-up. The other rod was kept with the pineapple dumbell and half pop-up. As i was sorting out the new rig i noticed the fish had started crashing to my left again, so rigs were place inside PVA bags of pellets and crushed boilies and cast to the showing fish, back leads were attached, its all a waiting game now i thought. Was just about to give up hope when the left hand snowman ro let out a few bleeps and then a loud screech. I lifted into the fish, and i knew it was a good fish from the off. The fish continued on a powerful runt, until i managed to gain a few yards at a time. As the fish was getting closer to the net i knew it was one of the lakes big boys. As the head of the carp hit the spreader block, i let out a loud cheer. I knew it was the patch and i also knew his time i was going to go 30+. I zeroed the scales to the dampened weigh sling and hoisted up the best, past 27lb my previous personal beast past 32lb and back to settle on 31lb 4oz, my first thirty. The photos were taken and the carp was released to fight another day. so my session ended with a new personal best and a mint high double.
