Has anybody here done much on Lymm Dam recently? I've been doing the odd short session on there after work over the past couple of months, but only have umpteen biggish bream to my name... I saw a carp cruising about a rod-length out on the 'cramped' swim to the left of the Church - the one with the pipe running out into the sunken tree. The carp looked a mid-double, at best.

I recall vague rumours of much bigger carp, but I've still yet to see one emerge, or even hear of any caught recently. I have tried everything and still cannot catch one of the elusive carp. Are there any left in Lymm Dam? Or are they merely apparitions, along with the kindred spirits that haunt the Church?

Help!! I am going out of my mind, but I love the place. It's not really pressured during the week and is one of the most picturesque venues I've fished in/around Manchester. I was contemplating yet another attempt after work today, but my brain keeps telling me to give up and start fishing a new venue before yet another blank is experienced! Somebody please tell me that I am not simply bream-bashing and that there are actually big carp still here!

The place has been a free for all for a few years now so I would imagine the majority of the stock has gone walkies. Maybe with minimal stock and less pressure it may well do that elusive whacker in years to come. Keep at it Zygote and keep it under your hat mate, good luck.

That's what keeps me going back. That when, eventually, I get a bleeding decent run (not the 'knock, knock' bream takes I'm more than well-aquainted with) it'll be a whacker. Forgotten what it feels like to play a decent carp these days, such is my regular contact with stupid slabs. Sure everything will click back into place once that moment arises.

Persistence beats resistance, hence I shall battle on regardless.

zygote the carp that are left in are old fish, there is scraper 20 left in i thinks, but nowhere near the amount of fish it was used to,whats left are stunted and old,but you never know it could throw up a surprise in it`s murky waters.i did witness something of the extraordinary last year in that little bay after the planks which will still make me go back for another look regularly to convince myself that i wasnt imagining it.good luck with it ,i to enjoy the water and surroundings keep it up,one tip i would offer is night-time rather than day, particles regularly prebaited.

there was 27lb mirror out about 3 months ago from the church bank the lad who had it was only 14. he had it on a pink pepper pop up. ive seen the carp in there, but they dont show them selves easily. I would agree a bit of prebaiting would eventually pay off for you. good luck fella

Yeah, bay malton angling club run it now. You can still fish it via day ticket though. No more night fishing permitted now, unfortunately.

The dam wall on the church bank used to throw fish late 80's/early 90's... Carp are creatures of habit, especially if not pressured...

Yeah the dam wall and the huge sunken tree seem to be the most likely carp capture candidates. We shall see. Had a drop-back on the dam wall rod on Saturday. Connected with fresh air though. Didn't even catch the obligatory bream! At least it didn't disturb my reading - The Shining is such a classic book. Seems very fitting, especially with the alleged supernatural activity around the Church.

Where do you mean? Along the Church bank, heading away from the dam wall towards the shallows?

Do you mean the tiny peg, next to the pipe, right next to the huge, partially-submerged tree - where you have to abseil down to gain access? If so, I've spent many an uncomfortable hour down there. I always go piking there in Winter. Just flicking a lure out into the trees and drawing it back across always produces fish. There's also a huge bumble bee that lives in-between the rocks - I named him 'Bertie'. The first time he emerged from the hole in the rock, I contemplated diving into the water, such was my fright. We've since become good friends.

If you look carefully at the tree to your left (if you're standing on the peg), you'll see my name etched in the tree, alongside the name 'Clare'. She was an ex of mine who sometimes came along for the ride. Whilst I was getting some more gear out of my car, she thought it would be a nice gesture. I was not impressed.

Once - being the outdoor exhibitionist type - she got her boobs out and made me jizz on them. The funny thing was: at the 'vital moment' I got a run, so I quickly turned round (still with my member on display) and struck into yet another damned bream. Good fish though. Easily 5/6lb. As she pulled her top back down and zipped my pants back up, I noticed that somebody had been watching us through their binoculars on the opposite bank. It would be rather fitting (and extremely embarrassing) if the carper in question was a member of this forum...

good job you didn`t stick with her, always measure your love by how much gear she can carry!!!

Yeah, luckily the 'Clare' days are long gone. She turned out to be a complete psychopath. The sex thing was good, but that's the only positive thing that came out of our relationship. The tree near the limestones was another favourite "spot" of hers. My weakness in the sex department was highlighted near this tree too. I just can't say 'no' to sex. Even whilst trying to concentrate on the carp activity surrounding me, the mere flash of a breast or glimpse of a nice arse, causes my inhibitions to vanish like an apparition in the night.

My current girlfriend won't even contemplate coming fishing, let alone conduct herself the way my ex did on the bank. This, I think, is a good thing.

Yes. She would be more than willing to accomodate you on pretty much any venue you frequent. She will do anything, however this benefit comes at a cost. She has a penchant for attacking you with sharp objects and stalking you at your workplace if you don't agree to marry her and have kids straight away. Also, she will cause huge grief to your family and try to segregate you from them by making up ridiculous lies and dispersing them tactfully through your associates. In return, she likes to be urinated on.

The choice is yours.

Saw a couple in my local pond going at it (twice) a couple of weeks back, sucky sucky, the water like a jaquzzi. And I was sat 25 yards away, watching the water as you do
Then the bloke came wondering past and says in broken English "Yes, today great day, sun shining, lots of fun." I thought, yeah matey, lots of fun indeed!!!
Bet the Tench went mad in the swim later

Let the record show, that she executed the afore-mentioned manoeuvre. The only involvement concerning my hands were in groping and wobbling her tits erratically from side to side.

I have never, to date, thrown one off in public.

Honest.
