Don't know if anyone has read previous posts of mine, but I'm on the verge of rejoining the fray, this time with the fruit of my loins in tow! I'm a single parent these days, so basically have had to wait until H is old enough - he's now 7, so I thought we'd give it a bash.
I've taken him a few times before, for about 2hrs each time, checking for signs of boredom, but none were forthcoming and he was well behaved (and kicked my butt catching if truth be told, although of course that was just because I was sorting his fishing out you understand.....)
Anyway, before I start taking him on 'serious' carping sessions (and believe me, I cant see them being too serious when I have to answer questions at a measured 24 a minute, and questions that only a seven year old can ask!)I thought a few 'long sessions' were in order.
So, 5am and we're setting up at a local water which has 3ft of water and 4ft of fish

, H on 2 sections of a pole and myself going through the motions with a feeder launched well out of the way.
H is soon catching rudd and skimmers and the odd crucian, doing fine -hooking his own fish, unhooking most of them himself too

, feeding his swim etc. etc. when 'dad, this one wont come up!'
The elastic is out of the pole and the fish is nowhere to be seen. 'Here we go' I thinks, he'll never get it (there aren't any biggies in the pond btw, a few small mirrors, but mainly F1's).
Anyway, he played it like a seasoned pro - he's not quite at the netting his own fish stage, so I do the honours.
It goes into the net first attempt, and believe me, I've never shouted 'YES' harder, even when it's been one of my own and a 'proper fish'.
I couldn't work out who had the biggest grin, me or the sprat, what do you reckon?
