Please note there is a problem with the Etangs De Breton website at the moment, due to a server crash at Joshua Internet who host it.... This is also affecting many other sites.....

The site can be found for the moment at www.etangsdebreton.co.uk/index.htm however we can't update it until Joshua Internet give us FTP access so we can re-locate it to the correct URL!

Our apologies for this!

Hi Dave,

The lake I intended to fish - Peter's Pool - was frozen solid, as was Eagle. I cleared the ice with the aerators to feed the fish/provide water for the ducks on Birch and Pops but I like to give the fish in them a good rest in the close season so didn't fish for them.

I fished a few hours for a couple of days on a friends nearby lake - Les Noyers - where I was staying at the house, but it was just too cold to catch anything.

We put some stunning big mirrors into Eagle - these should be on the site this week....

All the best to you, dad and John for 2006...

Here are some of the stunning big carp we have introduced into Eagle Lake this winter. They are all over 15kg.

Wanna' catch them? Then e-mail/PM me or telephone Wendy on 0192576 3572! Each party has TWO lakes to themselves!

This fish below is just simply awesome!

Please note that only 4 weeks are left on Poplars Lake and Pond this year.

These are 16-23rd September, 30th-7th October, 7 -14th Oct and 14-21st October.

If anyone wants one of these weeks then get back to us quickly.

We have had to turn a lot of anglers away from Poplars this year, so we are taking bookings now for 2007 - Poplars regulars are advised to book soon if they want to go back in 2007.....

Please note there are only six weeks left on Birch Lake this season... We have had to turn many away for the most popular weeks....

The available weeks are : 16th -23rd Sept, 23rd-30th Sept, 30th Sept- 7th Oct, 7th Oct- 14th Oct, 14th -21st Oct, 21st- 28th Oct.

If you want one of these remaining weeks (in my opinion the best weeks to fish the lake!) get back to me asap.

We are also now taking bookings for Birch for 2007 - so book your 2007 week now to avoid disappointment!

You're not wrong there, Cal....

I reckon there's at least 15 x 30lb commons in Birch in just 2.5 acres...

Just wish I had the time to fish it more myself....

NEW LAKE RECORD Wels' catfish landed from Poplars Lake this week by Dean Southall from West Bromwich... ... it weighed 85lb and was caught on a Melton Mowbray pork pie...without the crust which Dean ate prior to boating it out...

He then followed that up with another cat at 78lb...caught on black pudding.... ... plus several mirrors to 32lb on, thankfully, boilies....

The pics were poor with the 85lb fish, but the 78 pounder was the Scar Head fish (which I think you've caught at 60lb plus?)... Dean's wife Sharon last night caught a 60lb plus - biggest cat caught by a lady at Poplars, so the Southall's now have two lake bests...
We now introduce 1000's of silver fish into the lakes each season for the cats to eat - I'm sure this is why they are growing so well...

Guests report mahoosive carp sighted every week, all say 50lb plus .....no carp missing (1 fatality this year, a fully-scaled at 19lb which I remember Cal's brother catching a bit back) but they are getting craftier as they get older....fish caught recently I've identified are still showing good growth.... however because they are getting too crafty I'm introducing ten more big carp into Poplars in October....that should make the residents a bit more catchable....

They might have a go at the odd double, however this is quite rare, but they do prefer silver fish of a particular size....

Some recent catches....

21 PB's at Poplars & Birch in the last 4 weeks!

Visiting anglers to Birch and Poplars Lake have recorded no less than 21 new personal bests in the last four weeks!
Highlight catches from Birch Lake include new personal bests for second-time visitors Damon Allen and Stuart Woods. Damon banked a catfish of 66lb 8oz - a new Birch record Wels' - whilst Stuart Woods landed a personal best common carp of 31lb and a p.b. mirror of 36lb. Also scoring on Birch was Alan Taylor from Cambridgeshire with a common of 30lb and a 65lb monster cat breaking his p.b.'s out of sight. Alan's party also managed to catch several nice Birch carp off the surface - the first time this method has succeeded at the venue!

Highlight catches on Poplars include a new lake record, complex record and a personal best Wels' catfish of 85lb to Dean Southall of West Bromwich. Dean landed his awesome fish on a pork pie! He then followed that up with another of 78lb, this time on black pudding! Not content with that Dean landed also landed a personal best mirror of 32lb. Dean's wife, Sharon, landed a new p.b. Wels' of 70lb on the same trip - the biggest cat ever landed by a lady angler at Etangs de Breton! The Southall family are regular visitors, and have already re-booked for two weeks with us next year!

Brian Swinyard and Maureen Swinyard from London are also regular visitors, and in a two week stay Brian caught several carp from Birch up to a new best of 35lb 12oz mirror, then beat that with a 36lb mirror from Poplars Lake! When Trevor Davies from Stockport arrived at Poplars Lake he had never, ever fished or caught a carp. Following some quick tuition, Trevor was soon into a fish, landing a personal best and first-ever carp of 22lb, catching several other carp in his day-only sessions culminating in a new p.b. mirror of 24lb. Well done, Trevor!

Update on stockings this Xmas....

Ten fish averaging 22lb -24lb added to the already silly Peter's Pool stock...

And forty fish between 22lb and 35lb added to our new water for 2008 -Orchard Lake - to complement the existing good stock...

Plus we added four of Mark J's favourite fish - four double-figured sturgeon....

First decent cat of the season landed last week in continuing bad weather....60lb from Birch. ;\)

First cat, and the angler - a first visitor to France - was understandably over the moon...

After years of expectation producing many, many 30's Birch Lake has finally produced its first forty....;\)

Paul Ashton originally of Grey Mist and Warrington and a regular visitor to Birch - now of Jersey - had a lovely mirror of 41lb 8oz this week, a new PB. Well done, Paul !

Thanks Jeff, I've tried to do things the right way in stocking with doubles/twenties from registered fish farmers and growing them on....this is probably also the hard way!

I could have easily cut corners and bought instant 40's or bigger, or do what many have done and stolen big fish from public venues...

My regulars appreciate that fact I feel, and come year after year to fish for natural fish in beautiful tranquil surroundings...;\)
