With all the bull talked about bait it sort of gets your mind wondering what exactley you are shelling out your hard earned for...at least for any lazy so and so's like me who have neither the inclination nor full understanding to put together a bait that satisfys all the current theorys on bait formulation.

This is where I need your help

There seems to be a good few anglers on here who at least sound like they know what they're talking about.Do you think it possible that the members of FW would be able to formulate a mix capable of holding it's own against the bait companys offerings at a competative price and perhaps even be able to suggest a company or set of individuals able to manufacture the mix....even it's name could be suggested by FW members...wip...woo.

Everybody would Know whats in it..good or bad..but supposing it did get to the stage were it was offered for sale a small donation to a charity would surely shame any copycats into thinking twice...wouldn't it?

I'll gladly part with my money and give it a whirl tho' I doubt that it would see any action until the spring.

anybody want to start the ball rolling?

Bomber,

nice idea, although I think in practice even getting two people to agree on here what a bait should exactly contain is almost impossible . Therefore finding enough people who would have confidence in the bait to buy it and use it (read: enough people who had an input into the bait) would be difficult I think.

Too many cooks...and all that. But I would support such an initiative if it got off the ground

It is not difficult to make a bait that is better than what is commercially available
The limiting factor is cost.. for £4 per kilo you can have an all singing and dancing bait that any carp in a slightly feeding mood will pick up... if you take that to the market.. it works out at about £17 per kilo.... who's going to pay that...?????
Nice idea, but I'm afraid that there will be a factor that overrides all others... those that really know the score will not give away their edges that easily....

Come on Pete share some of those Edges.

It must be possible to produce a better bait than the big boys for around £10 a kilo......and this is only theoretical so far isn't it.

what about Krill,Sardine and Herring meal what proportions, what else needs to be added? what colour?

the FD mix cool......

If you read a few bait articles you will get some good ideas about what may be needed in a bait, the problem is you can only judge a bait by your own experiences. Quite a lot of trial and error.
For many years I played with bait adding a bit of this trying a bit of that and came up with a bait that caught fish. I now use a commercial bait due to the limited time and space I have avialable.

A bit of robin red is a good addition to a bait and it makes it darker.

just a small thought...

i thought the original idea was some kind of pool of knowledge to create a bait that will blow all the other away.... not a bait which would blow all the others away which you can sell and make massive profits on....

but then i can see that even if the base mix only cost £4 a kilo you still have the time and effort etc needed to make the bait...

IMO it would be nice to find a list of good combinations of flavourings and addatives etc which would catch fish...

ALIWIL42.............Yes not to make a profit but covering costs is of course essential. As for blowing other baits away I'm not sure that such a bait exists.

300g Herring meal
300g Sardine meal
300g Krill meal
100g Robin red
Betain?

Come on you Bait guru's I'm totally in the dark here! How's it looking so far?Where am I going wrong....I am going to use this bait...you dont want me to blank do you?...

Bomber, you're going to need some sort of binder/rolling agent to keep it all together and make it rollable.
Are we after an all year round bait or a mainly summer one?
