Any members read Tim's suggestion in this months Carpworld? He suggests that the BCSG should 'take a lead and make some meaningful statistics covering areas of interest available to the carp scene generally."

What are your views, fellow members?

For what its worth, my view is that any information/knowledge generated from the BCSG should stay within the BCSG, otherwise what is the point of being a member?

What say you...?

for those of us that do not know. Could you outline what the BCSG stands for (I don`t mean the acronym, I`m refering to their intended goal/mission statement if you will).

We don't have one.

If we ever did have one I think I'd leave the Group after 18 years of membership. No one is qualified to be telling me what I should be doing in my carp fishing life. The BCSG has no rules - long may it be so!

The thread is asking BSCG members only on the FW for their views, mate!

I've only been a member a couple of years now, there's a lot good info and hard earned knowledge bounced around at BCSG meetings and in the mag that should remain within the BCSG.

Is the BCSG like the Freemasons....?

Is sounds more elite than ECHO or even the SAS...

Do you all wear aprons and hit each other over the head with wooden spoons and trowels...?

i believe the reason the info in the mag and the helpfull nature of the members exists is because the group keeps itself to itself, mostly. the freedom of info would dry up if it was likley to be spread far and wide. whats wrong with that? most of us have seen massive pressure on the fish and venues we have known and loved.I have come through the ultra cult super secret years, (Matt Black) into a decade or so of open, no secrets type angling, and to a certain extent will share any info i can with like minded people. i feel i try and preserve a little of the carp fishing we used to have, in the last 14 visits there have been no anglers in sight or even within half a mile, when i catch the fish i'm after i'll do what i can to help if someone asks, until then its a personal thing. the group member who had the fish (45+) before me was left to his target and respected by those who knew to be left to it. carp fishing is now too big, with too many people chasing their dreams every night of the season- remember that??. with group members spread out very thinly across the uk the sharing of any info within the group is not going to start a mass exodus to a previosly deserted venue or the mass abuse of an ingredient or recipe, which would have probably caught for its descoverer for the rest of their fishing lives.if the same info would be spread to any one who cared to buy whichever monthly mag wanted to print it the true heart and nature of the BCSG would be lost, that is the social and un-jealous group of people with one thing in common but totally seperate lives.
