Lockey has fished for what you call 'pukka' fish for many,many years, and has caught a lot more 'English carp' than you and from many waters. If Lockey is happy with the status of Benson, then so am I! That's all I've said.

I'm perfectly happy to have someone with the real facts about the origin of Benson post them on here. From memory, there have been threads previous on this issue which were not deleted.

wasnt two tone a kent river board fish i know a lot of mid kent lakes were stocked from the river board and i believe dutch imports but at reletivly low wieghts now who is to say weather they are british or not as the case may be personaly i have fished for them because in my mind they are good fish, maybe its just hearsay but i was told benson was introduced at a reletavly decent wieght (over 20lb) and not just him now to me it would not make me feel good and does not feel right to call it a record it is down to personall preferance if locky wants to fish for them fine he is a hard working angler and very good but an angel he aint!

Whilst I agree with you paul that Locky has indeed caught many fine English carp, this is no bearing to base your opinion on a fish from. If that is the way we are judging fish, then I would argue that Terry isnt fishing for it, ie a stupid statement!

The kent river board fish were, I belive, stocked in the mid 70's (although you may correct me on this). At this period nothing was known about disease, stocking, importing etc

Your analogy of using Terry as an argument against is silly in the extreme....why? .... did he not fish for an ILLEGALY moved fish and receive credit for such a capture?

If Benson was imported legally at 20+ and has grown on to 60+ then the merit of that capture is as great as any other 'pukka' fish swimming with this country.

Mary was moved as a high double (illegaly) and due credit was given to it's captors when it reached 3 times that weight...

So I ask, why not the same for Benson?

P.S - Not having a dig a Terry in anyway, I don't give a damn what others catch, just enjoying this discussion
