Guide as to how to display pics in any post

To get this image here I typed the following code in this post as follows;
<image>http://www.fishingwarehouse.co.uk/ubbthreads/images/fwforumlogo.gif</image>

If you copied exactly the same then you would have the image appear whever you placed the code in your post.

Remember to change the < and > with [ and ] or it will NOT work! If I did it on this post the code would just disapear and the picture would appear in place of the code! (if you see what I mean )

This code shows you where the image is - if you follow the code backwards you will see the pic is in a folder named images in a folder called ubbthreads and so on.

For pics located on your computer
---------------------------------------------------------
Ideally the picture should be on the fw server. To achieve this make sure you know where the image is on your computer.

Then, preview the post you are making to include the picture and use the facility to attach your chosen image (click 'browse' where shown). This will automatically upload it to our server.

When making the post you will see an 'attatchment' link below your name to the left (like I have here below my name). If you click this link the image will open in a window and you can find its location (in otherwords the correct path to the image found in the images browser windowSee it is similar to the one above?). Copy this address/url and place it in your post as described above and the image will appear when the post is updated in the post you wish to make.

I just uploaded my current avatoir as an attatchment so you can see. Notice the forum has automatically changed the name of the pic by adding some numbers to it!

You can place an image which is NOT on the fw server by just using the correct path (address - url) to an image that is displayable on the internet. To find the pics address, ask your browser to open just the picture in a new window and the full address - url displayed in the browser top bar is what you need to copy to put into your image code!

How to make your pics ready
---------------------------------------------------------
Please note to keep the forum running quickly make sure the image is correctly sized and ideally optomised to make it load as fast as possible.

Basically this means any digital image has a size. Depending on what programmes you have loaded in your computer try to find a menu letting you change the size to around 400pixels wide and resave it

Graphics are ideally saved as a giff
Pictures are ideally saved as a jpeg

Some graphic programmes and utilities also optomise pics for web display. You can find free versions on the net. These make sure your picture has too high a resolution. Even though your computer will display any image at 72dpi (dots per inch) it is possible yours (if taken from a digital cams) needs to be reduced.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Basically you are using the forum software to upload a pic automatically - finding where it is located and then using its location as the link to display it within your post using html and the [image] your pic you uploaded [/image] code.

If in doubt, try it out in a post below - if it does not work then edit your post until it does. It all makes sense in the end

Cheers!

Steve

Steve,

I have just found this info for the first time, apologies for not finding it sooner, maybe someone should have gave me a 'tip'?

Nevertheless, many thanks to yourself and the other patient forum members that got this 'well weathered Troll' there in the end.

Should anyone view this post who has not yet mastered such computer wizardry, go on, have a go.

Even I can do this now!

It is said that 'A Picture says a thousand words', and it certainly adds interest to the forum content.

My first clumsy efforts are to be found on the site in carp waters, 'Maurepaire', and carp fishing 'French Creepy Crawlies'. Some may find this amusing, useful or even of interest?

Once again, cheers for the lift.

David Payne

Pete,

Nearly there. Just change the <> that you have put in to [] and it will work.
